Guys,

My birthday is coming up, and I've been offered to be taken anywhere I like. But where should I go? I have no clue at this point. I was thinking Steak, but I'm not too sure.

So I ask you, if someone was willing to take you anywhere you like for a great meal. Where would you go? :)

River Cafe - excellent food. My abosolute fave in Calgary

I second Ceasars for great steak, the Sheraton I found ot be quite mediocre, wouldn't go back there.

Don't know if they have re-opened from their refurb' yet, but Hy's is also very good.

Steak... not sure, but avoid Chicago Chophouse, terrible service and over rated. Perhaps Ruths Chris or Vintage?

+1 for Vintage for steak, or Muse/River Cafe/Rouge for an amazing meal.

Ruth Chris, just cause it would be the most $. The Ranch and Bears Den are good times. Ummm, I guess my final answer is Il Songo, it's baller.

Is this a romantic dinner for two? Dinner with the parents and grand parents? Or dinner with a group of friends?
Id suggest a different place for each scenario. need more info

I like La Chaumière, Fleur De Sel, and the Ranche

I'm surprised there aren't more "douche" responces such as those Victor Chow & Penny Lane crap such as:

Bellgo
Blvd
Metro Grill

Bear's den was really good, the room is kinda weird though, huge and open.

Good for a large party but weird when I took a date there.

I'd go:

River Cafe
Rush
Capo
Mercato

Depends what kind of food & atmosphere you're looking for, Calgary has some good variety.

Fleur De Sel,

So, for now I'm sort of leaning away from Steak.

Mercato is on 4th street correct? that is what I get when I type it into google.

I checked out Fleur De Sel's website and the menu looks pretty good.

I'm not much for dressing up, so would I get into Mercato/Fleur De Sel in a nice pair of jeans a collared shirt?

Thanks guys

I know for sure that you could get into Fleur de Sel with a pair of jeans and stuff. Last time I was there the waiter didn't have time to change and was wearing his shorts & t-shirt for like an hour.

OK so Muse wasn't bad... the appetizers were really good. Oysters were fresh and large in size, the seared scallop and roasted brussel sprouts were fantastic and the escargots in that sauce they make was delish. Love the little cheese breads they give you but was a bit dissapointed by the entree. The lobster ravioli was waaaaaay to salty, the caviar on the top only makes it saltier as well. Great venue though I love the multi story setup. Service was so so.. our waiter was sort of an introvert who didnt really add to the experience.

Not sure if Id ever go back but it was a fun night nonetheless.
