Until mazdaspeed gets a hold of the RX8 and turbocharges it, the 350Z wins hands down. At least it looks pretty :dunno:.

In a straight line the rx-8 is slower than molasses, however in every car rag I have read, they do talk about the handling, and in timed comparison on slalom etc etc, the '8 does outperform the 350z and few other notable sport sedans..
I would buy neither, there are older cars half the price that would lay a beating on both of these....Maxt

Well if I bought a $1000 civic and invested $24k I bet it would outhandle + out drag any of those cars.

Some people buy cars NOT purely for performance.

tru
but a Z32 is not jus pure performance
looks ok IMO too

an SW20 could b a possible candidate, 25 grand plus cost of car u could hav a pretty crazy one to rival the Z33, not that theres anything wrong w/ it, i love the car

wooo numbers lie! 287hp 350z my ass.. try 228hp
Whats the Rx8 making? 238 vs 180 whp? So mazda embelished a bit more. I heard they had to lower the cars official HP rating after a few angry owners complained.

Actually those numbers are pretty accurate for the 350z. 287hp translates to about 238whp (assuming 17% drivetrain loss). whp does not equal flywheel hp.

According to the numbers I saw for a dyno, the RX-8 is either even less horsepower than the retraction or has a very sloppy drivetrain. It was in the neighborhood of 20-25% loss to the wheels. Some autotragics don't have that much loss.

Don't care about a few hp here and there, I'm not really good enough to take advantage of it all anyway.

350z looks like shit. RX8 wins in the "not looking stupid" contest. And it is far lighter. I'm betting it would be much more fun to drive. More exciting too with that high-revving engine.

As for which would win, err, not exactly a lot of specifications here. Win the Mikkow beauty contest? well, Rx8.. mua har har.

If the Mazda's high revving engine is exciting then enjoy the 9000 RPM redline while reading the licence plate of the 350z. :whocares: It's all about the speed. And as far as the looks go I admit the front of the 350z isn't as nice as it's G35C twin but the back end is nice and that's all that anyone will see anyway.

Thanks, I would love to. ;) Although I doubt I would ever participate in any kind of drag racing to begin with.

It's all about the speed.
For me, I think fun to drive cars are more interesting than faster cars. Fast is more fun usually, but many other things are more important, such as ergonomics, steering feel, balance, blabla. Annnd it isn't necessarily quicker in every place either.

Looks like shit ? can someone give me some shit then Oh yes, let me see what I can pull out of my.. no wait, that's nasty.

You don't need to think it - it is a fact. :)

It has other things to make it less fun to drive than these cars.

Try say.. a Mercedes SL55 (ironically SL stands for Sport & Light. LOL.. the thing weighs like a nasty SUV) versus a Mini-Cooper S on some fun roads and we shall see which is more enjoyable. :)

In Fact, why MINI COOPER S is fun to drive (rated the second best car in the world, by CARS) is not because they are just light, (one reason too) they are actually HEAVY for their size, so many magazines rated is it "too heavy for the size" however, many other factor made it "Fun to drive".

Another great example is M5 is super heavy, but why everyone rated it the best sport sedan ?

Again, no offence, but weight is just one of the many factors.:)
P.S. nice to have both SL55 and Cooper S ! then forget about 350Z or Rx 8 ! ha ha ..
Sorry for off topic.

haha shut up mikko, uve driven neither. remember, MAGAZINES dont make u experienced!!

i think the 350z is a fun car to drive. it is quite a big car, but it still feels very quick and solid thru turns, like a bmw.

ive never driven an rx8 tho.

Mikko
11-20-2003, 02:31 AM
What does that matter, Jeff? I'm not good enough to tell by driving both anyway, and neither are, probably, most people who try both.

Mikko
11-20-2003, 02:33 AM
Might be heavy for it's size, but it is still light. Does the mini not slalom faster than Porsche 911 Turbo?

Weight makes a huge difference in how they feel like to drive.

RX8 blows. I'd sooner get an RSX-s then this POS. Give me a turbo on this overrated engine or go home.
350 has gobs of tq and still a fairly high redline considering it's displacement. Best sounding 6 i've heard in a long while, minus maybe a GN. Still rather have a g35c tho.

When talking about performance on the limit and comparisions with other similar vehicles, HELL YES. I'm not pretending to be some kind of elite driver who can just sample a car, drive it at the very limit, then go on to the next car.

People think too highly of their abilities to drive cars to the limits. Especially after 'test drivers' of buddies cars or whatever.

Many testers are ex-race car drivers, and damned good ones.

Who says only in drag racing? plain old brute force is useful and tough to beat in curcit racing as well (Viper in whatever type of racing the C5-R is in as well as 911 turbos (supercar?))

The RX8 is nimble and everything, the Renesis is a great engine as well (rotary is sweet) but until that is producing at least 225 hp and simmilar tourque it won't be fair game for the 350z. It's at best a 4 door sports car for the masses: easy to drive and enough power to keep a NOVICE driver well occupied and ENTERTAINED. ooooo look 9000 RPM yay!!! your still in last place though.
