View Full Version : Honda Repairs - Other than the dealership?

So my dad's looking to get a few things done on his 02 Honda Civic. He needs to get the timing belt changed on the car. A friend of his mentioned to him that while he's getting his timing belt changed, he should also consider changing out his water pump and tensioner to get it out of the way.

The car has 146k on it so I'm wondering if changing the water pump and tensioner is neccessary?

Also, the above work will cost roughly 1000 bucks at the honda dealership (talked to the Airdrie Honda dealership). Are there any good shops out there you guys have had good experience with that will do this sort of work? Cost is also a factor ... any local/private shops that will be normally cheaper than the dealership?

I tried a quick search on the forums but if I missed it, please direct me to the thread. All help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I took my parent's 97 accord to get a time belt done at this place called Hu's Garage up in the North East. I can't remember how much it was exactly but I'm pretty sure it was under 1000 bucks. The guy apparently specializes in Hondas.

Could always check with Mr_Et on here. He's worked on many member's cars, mine included. Doesn't charge and arm and a leg and definitely knows his way around cars. Check out his thread in the performance section to see his work.

And I am sure going the Mr ET way the parts (buy your own) would be quite the savings, seeing how the stealerships jack up their parts prices

Yea Steve (Hu) is a great guy, old Chinaman... old school mechanic specializing in Honda's, he's had his shop forever... Beside the old T&T Honda, beside Fat Kee restaurant.

Always have wise funny stories.

He's incredibly honest, and a very good mechanic. I'd trust him with anything I drive....
My mom takes her CRV to him, and always rant & raves about his service.
So I'd very highly recommend him if you dont go with Mr. ET or Option Import.

I also took my parents car to Paz for an oil change as well just recently. The owner seemed like a really nice guy as well.

+1 for Paz auto, my family has been taking our Honda's there and hes done nothing but good work.

Op, we took our 04 Civic there and it came out to about $600 for the timing belt and a few miscellaneous things along with it installed.

Just wanna thank you guys for recommending Option Import.

Took my car in today for a "B" service, Jim was great, good service, fast, and way cheaper than the dealer! If I went to the dealer it would've taken all day, they took 1 hour flat just as he told me when I dropped it off. And Jim was very through explaining to me afterwards the car's conditions.

Now I can finally say eff Crowfoot Honda after all the BS I've had to put up with those clowns on my last warranty issue.

  for Option Import!
