View Full Version : Remember the days of dial up...

Lately I have been hearing those old school dial up comm tones in my room, the other night I was woken up by the classic start up noise (you guys know what I'M talking about)

Thing is though I have my wireless router 2 floors down, and have not owned a dial up modem in the last 6 years. Our house does have shaw Voip. but I still can't figure out where the noise is coming from?

its just super odd?

Thoughts?

Did one of your siblings/family download it as a ring tone?

haha no,

honestly I thought some one was trying to pull a prank of me, so i checked my phone and turned it off, but no luck the sound was still there.

its been over a week now that I have been hearing this, you would think if it was a cell phone that the battery would have died by now.

This is definately how bad horror movies start.
Call yourself an excorsist (sp?) I am sure you will have a paranormal activity situation on your hands

^ word, after all the things you've done such as turning off laptop and what not, maybe its some paranormal activity. Or perhaps you have some stalkers just creeping you out with a hidden camera..

This just came to mind - I have powerpacks (like laptop chargers, etc) that make this noise very faintly. Not exactly the same as the classic net noise, but a very similar high fluctuating pitch noise.

Yeah, I'd unplug everything and see. The list of things that make odd but very faint noises in my house:

- speaker hum (I have a lot of speakers...)
- power supplies
- printer
- Shaw digital terminal
- light bulbs
- pretty much anything with a flashing LED
- fridge/freezer
- furnace
- hot water tank

etc...

Nice, I will try it for a bit. I miss the sound. My favourite is the low pitch "ba dumm...ba dumm..." part.

I would think it could be possible to get suck noises from a receiver. Bell Expressview or something. Another way to check is start hitting the breaker switches. Turn off the house 1 room at a time.

It also could be any power adapters (comps, tv, game consoles, shit like that). Smoke detectors, Carbon monoxide detectors. When i lived at home, there was a lamp that i could hear all the time. Pissed me off constantly.

Have you considered that there may be surveillance equipment mounted in your ceiling recording you masturbate? It then phones in to the mothership to upload the video when you're done.

Seriously, I'd double-check and make sure your fax machine is completely disconnected.

another possibility to consider....

do you have an old alarm system in your house? a number of years ago, they started connecting alarm systems to phone lines for remote monitoring. might have an old unit trying to connect...
