My sister is looking at buying a aftermarket CD player for her 02 cavalier and was told she has to spend $150 on a wiring harness. The deck she wants to buy is only $150 and she was wondering if there is any way of wiring this up without that harness. We were told the harness is so expensive because it controls airbags, sensors and stuff like that.

controls airbags, wtf?!

check out crutchfield or somewhere online. 150$for a cavi seems high

it is possible to wire up a deck without a wiring harness. you need to be fairly comfortably with wiring/stripping/soldering.

No, the harness will cost like 20$, i think they confused her.

the problem with cavaliers, is that part of the top of the dashboard has to come off, in specifics, its the one that is attached to the airbag. The airbag system needs to be disabled before the dash can come off.Its a pretty sucky procedure, i installed one in our old 99 cavalier. I found a way around it, but i broke a few things haha. Pieces of junk IMO

the accessory is controlled through data and that module along with the chimes. typically the wiring harness is 150, dashkit is 30 and antenna adapter is 20..... lol almost worth the car right there.

yeah its a data retenion harness airbag mod warning chimes rap shutdown ect are all done thru factory radio and thats where the 150 harness comes into play
and yes she will also need a dash kit and antenna adapter as well

if she is willing to lose the chime, you don't need the module.. but if you really want wal-mart has the module for like $50 bucks
