I was browsing on e46fanatics and came across this article.

*Quoted from e46fanatics.com*
"BMW 3 Series (E46) Sub-Frame Settlement has been granted final court approval. In response to allegations that 1999-2006 BMW 3 Series vehicles can suffer from sub-frame cracking that enlarges over time, BMW has agreed to provide the following benefits:

(1) If you paid for a sub-frame repair to your 1999-2006 BMW 3 Series vehicle, you can obtain reimbursement from BMW by submitting a completed claim form and proof of expenditure to the Claims Administrator. Claim forms can be downloaded from http://www.e46subframeclassactionsettlement.com and should be mailed to the address listed on the claim form. The deadline to postmark you claim is September 9, 2010.

(2) If you currently own or lease a 1999-2006 BMW 3 Series vehicle, you can contact an authorized BMW dealer and make an appointment to receive a free sub-frame inspection. If the inspection reveals any sub-frame cracking, the dealer will provide a free repair as well. The deadline for free sub-frame inspections is September 9, 2010, for vehicles no longer under warranty. If your vehicle remains under warranty, you will have one year from the expiration of your warranty to receive a free sub-frame inspection."

full details can be found here (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=679669)

I was wondering if anyone with an E46 has gone to the dealership about this or have heard anything. This would be awesome, free inspections are always nice.

Thanks

Imagine those who own the car, but have no clue what the sub frame is. Its a disaster waiting to happen. Good on BMW for doing this though.

uh, BMW has ignored that the issue existed since the E36 and denied thousands of claims.

Who and what vehicles are covered?
You may be able to receive benefits under the settlement if you are a United States resident who currently owns or leases a 1999-2006 Model Year BMW 3 Series vehicle, or formerly owned or leased a 1999-2006 Model Year BMW 3 Series vehicle and paid for repairs of the vehicle’s sub-frame.

You have to be a US resident?
I want my subframe checked. =(

Read a thread on e46fanatics about a guy who took his car to the body shop to get the repair done, the body shop owner told him, "we have already repaired 300 of these"

less likely if your car is 02+.

My 00 323i hasn't broken. Harsh rims (low pros) + harsh suspension + sway bar will really help it break as I understand.

Would like to know as well.
Not really fair that only the US would get this sub-frame repair. =(
