Personally, I'd go for a S5, or S4, or a used RS4... but I'm an AWD lover (especially if this will also be a winter ride, sure you don't NEED AWD here, but it's damn fun!)

Slightly used is an option. I actually prefer slightly used ones since they already have gone through one big depreciation.

STI used to be my dream car when I was in school.
Now I don't like STI because too many kids can afford to drive them.
It would be fun to drive but it is mainly just for speed. I want some luxurious options as well.

i'd see if you can import a used Dodge Viper from the states for that price.

Other options:
Acura NSX
Porsche 911

None of the cars listed come close to being as good as the SLK55 other than the 'vette or C63 if you want a sporty vehicle.

Legacy GT or A5 over an SLK 55?

I would put the 335 on your list.

One thing I don't like about slk55 amg is that they only come with automatic. Also the used one I am looking at now doesn't have a warranty left which will cost me a fortune to maintain in the end.

If a car is sitting in a shop waiting for repairs it isn't very sporty.

Two seaters are cool. but ... I have had 2 in my time - 240Z, Alfa 1750 spyder) and both times I ended up regretting it.

Besides, the question was what 'I' would get. For me, the new GT is the perfect car - test drive one they are sweetness. It works year round. You could get one new for the same price as the SLK and not be getting anyone's sloppy seconds.

No need to bash or laugh at other peoples opinions.

If it's new, VW GTI or Subaru WRX but I would lease as there deals going for both of those cars. I just happen to have both in the garage haha

SLK55 is definitely another good option but I don't know if you can get one for $40K yet? Higher mileage maybe. Try to find one with extended warranty + good service history. But be prepared to pay to play if things break.

A used Elise would be a good choice. At least you know the powerplant is as reliable as they come, even is the car is beat on the engine would have plenty of milage left.... and they look so damned sexy.

Sell the 300 and buy the RS4. It's the only car you'll need.

Then take the the $1X,XXX you get from selling the 300 and go buy a used 04ish S2000 from the states.

Now you've got a sick daily drive that is perfect for all weather conditions and a summer convertible.

All of this is within your budget

335i is just as good as g37/370z and imo better than a5. M3 is also in your price range. I would suggest you drive these 2 cars before you cut them from your list. Buy a car for a car not because of the brand and because too many people buy it. Whatever you buy you won't end up being unique in Calgary anyway.

If not the Z06 would be my choice, sweet cars. I also personally love 911's

Can't believe nobody has mentioned the original super sedan, the M5.

You can find some beautiful examples of the e39 M5 in the states for half of what you're looking to spend.

You could go ahead and get a 510 hp rocket that can still haul 5 people, in the e60 M5 for 36-45k right now.

Well if I had 40gs I'd get an STi hehe, but that's just me.

From the list you gave I would probably choose the 370z.
- IMO it looks awesome, nice and slick.
- You can get a new one starting at 40gs which is cheaper than the A5 or SLK 55
- It comes with 332 HP, pretty good considering the price.
- Nothing wrong with vettes but, seems like a crapload of people in Calgary own one. Not sure if you mind blending in with the crowd, but for me I'd get something that isn't as popular. I've only seen one 370z so far lol, I'm sure there are a lot more out there but not nearly as many as the vettes.

anyways just my 2 cents.

Good luck with the shopping, should be fun!

I'd say corvette or 370z. Those are the most different from a 300. Why buy a car thats similar to the one you already have? especially if you want a toy.

C5 Z06. You can get a low milage one in Calgary for $30k, or $24kUS in the states.

12 seconds stock with track tires, reponds amazingly well to mods, 900km on a tank, looks good. The imports are going to beat it on interior looks and being quiet, but it is a sports car after all. Mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YRiUB3PNUE

The Z06 only weights 3100 Lbs. By today's standards for a 'sports car' it is high bun in comparison to most other cars it is reasonably light, the drag co-efficient is around the industry average and the transmission has tall gearing.

There is no reason is shouldn't do better than 8L/100k.

What boggles my mind is how GM cannot make a sports car with a really low drag coefficient.
The Vette is 0.31 factory and the Saturn Sky is 0.42.
- Lower is better.
In comparison a Toyota Sienna is 0.30 a Mercedes E-class is 0.24 and a Ford Escape is 0.29 and a Chevy Tahoe is 0.34

They are actually more fuel efficient than EVOs.

EPA rating for the EVO is 14.7/10.7 L/100kms city/hwy, whereas that vintage Corvette is 13.8/9.0

Don't forget drive train losses.
Evo's are also all wheel drive.
