These specs are pretty much confirmed. AMG version is much heavier than the SLK 32 AMG that it replaces, with only 6hp more. There is the 7G 7 speed tranny though, so acceleration is expected to be identical to the SLK 32 AMG. Handling will be much improved, as the 2005 SLK is based on the current C class, vs the mid 90's outdated suspension of the current SLK's.

Delivery dates:
SLK 200 (Europe Only) - March 29, 2004
SLK 350 - Q3 2004
SLK 55 AMG - Q4 2004
SLK 250, SLK 300, SLK 60 AMG are rumored in development for various markets.

SLK 350

Optional remote roof operation

SLK 55 AMG
355hp 5.4L 24 valve V8 (same as CLK55 AMG)

7 Speed tranny?

Some guy on beyond put up a 7 speed tranny as a joke not too long ago. Now it's a reality. Tha would be damn sweet - I always get into 5th and have no where left to go.

The MB 7G tranny is actually a 9 speed tranny, 7 forward, 2 reverse. It comes standard on the 2004 E500 and SL500 I believe.

why the hell would you need 2 gears for reverse?

Winter reverse mode... lower ratio, and its "free" because reverse is a function of 1st and 2nd now.

The SLK 32 AMG is currently priced at $76,900+GST base (I paid $80+GST after options). The SLK 55 is supposed to go up in price to about $83,000+GST base. There's also TONS of options available for the R171 (unlike the current model), so fully spec'd out I wouldn't be surpirsed to see it at right under 100k .

 100k!!!! That's outta-my price range.

Do you know when they will come in?? What month exactly?

Also, how much does the SLK 350 cost base and with options? Does it come with in manual also?? I regretted not getting manual in the 320.

Yes, the SLK 350 will have a manual version available. It's a 6 speed manual, and is 0.1s SLOWER than the automatic.

Price is goig to be 7% higher than SLK 320 price.

I'm willing to bet we'll see the cars in Sept 04.

 260 HP ? and 7 speeds ? 5.5 seconds ? wow .. 1 full second quicker then the 2003 !

That is good.. at least make it more "Different" compare to the silly crossfire ! :dunno:

I still don't understand why BENZ doesn't make something like " SMG " or " F 1 " shifter, yes, their Automatic gearbox is the best ...... but ....

They do have an F1 style gear box now. Its on the new E 55 and I think its even on the new SL 55.

I think he's talking about the SMG style F1 box, where it's a computer controlled manual transmission, not a fast automatic.

I've driven an M3 SMG, and various Mercedes Speedshift autos, and the SMG's are wicked, faster shifts, but feels way harsher for part throttle day to day automatic mode. WOT powershifts feels way harsher (and mechanically damaging) than the autos too. The Ferrari F1 tranny sucks ass... no downshift rev matching, it's a liability at the track I swear! :)

For a car that I'd take to the track as well as on the street, SMG is the way to go. MB speedshift AMG auto's rank a close second.

I Think close to $100K is way, way, way over my budget. I told my self, if it was around $70 grand then i was going to get one but anything higher i might pass and look at the Boxter S.

No no .. It won't be $100K most likely about the same with the SLK 32, with may be coupe G more, that will push it around $80K

As rage2 said, may be many more Options will be avaliable, but you don't have to add them, such as "Special Leather", Phone, GPS, PDC, Adaptive headlight... or even wheels ..etc....

It is a German car, spend $10K on "No need" options is easy ! and then plus Taxes ... easy to past $100K ! :dunno:

I have seen few Boxster S , cost over $100K with options and tax.

For me, a $60K plus , 4.5 second Lotus Elise is the way to go ! (but not a good everyday driving car as AMG)

I already said there's a price increase from the SLK 32. I paid $80k + GST on my SLK 32, so it's gonna be higher than $80k.

No way in hell will it be $70k. I paid $72k for my SLK 320! Boxster S is going to be more expensive than $70k. A friend of mine bought a Boxster (non S) with a few options, $72k. The Boxster S and SLK 55 AMG will most likely be very close in price. The SLK will outrun the Boxster S easily though, on and off the track.

You might be right rage2. But my budget for a new car is going to be around $70K maybe a little more, depends on the wife if she will let me spend any more.

I have not done any car pricing out yet so i don't know how much the boxter s or the new MB SLK is going for. If they are over $80K than i am going to keep the C230 and wait till maybe i can get a used or demo model on SLK or the Boxter S.

Those are the two models i am looking at right now. I might also look at a used M3 also.

When i was at lone star MB last. The sales guy priced me the SLK 32 for little over $70K. So that's why i thought the new one will be around the same price range.

New SLK 32 still lists for 76,900. A used 2002 SLK 32 goes for around 60-65k.
