I was wondering if anyone here buys Japanese magazines regularly and/or know of a good source. Preferably somewhere that doesn't charge an arm and a leg.

The magazine I'm interested in is a recent issue of Otona no Kagaku. I think it's similar to Popular Science over here. I found a few sites that sell it (ebay, hlj, yesaisa), but just want to see if I have more options.

Thanks!

There's a place on centre and 3rd in Chinatown called Page One, It's next to Thai Tai. It's mostly Magazines from Hong Kong, but I saw a bunch of Japanese Mags last time I went there.
Might be worth a try.

Good luck.. You won't find what you're looking for at those places. For such a specific mag, you're going to have to go online. Calgary sucks for anything like this. And even if they might possibly have something close, it'll be very very old and/or very very expensive.

Take a trip to YVR or Kinokuniya in Seattle. :D

Actually you can always try the Kinokuniya website or call their store.

Yeah... haven't tried the one on 17th, but the other 2 don't have it. Online it is then, I guess.

Thanks everyone!

The kinokuniya site seems to have some interesting stuff btw.

I don't know if jlist or jbox will have it, but you can try.

I believe their sites are j-list.com/j-box.com but they're most certainly blocked from the computer I'm on right now. If you don't succeed with the dashes, try without.

is this the same one PureDeXteritY mentioned? I checked and they only have fashion magazines with cute japanese girls.

Thanks for the offer maxomilll! I'll definitely let you know if I need your help.

Just a follow up. I got my magazine!

Tried a few places online and only kinokuniya and ebay had stock. I picked Kinokuniya cause they seem more trustworthy. Anyways... they called and told me they only ship UPS, so I had to pay more than expected cause of the stupid brokerage fee. At least they were nice enough to call me in advance.

Next time I'll remember to ask them to ship it to my friend in the states and forward it to me using USPS.:banghead:

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Well assuming the magazine was the only thing you ordered, you probably shouldn't be hit with any kind of GST when it crosses the border, which means no charges...

no it wasn't GST. it was the stupid UPS "Entry Preparation Charge". They tag that on everything that's over $20 in value when using their Standard Service. If it was USPS/Canada Post there would have been no charge.
