has anyone installed carpet on their hardwood stairs?

i think this is called a stair runner.

i just slipped on our hardwood stairs and want to install something to prevent anyone else from slipping cuz we just had a baby and that would be bad if someone slipped down the stairs while holding the baby.

if anyone has any advice or recommendations it would be appreciated.

thanks.
