Mininova went legit... sad day for all torrenters. There are no other good public websites out there as far as I am concerned. I guess it's time to go private, and finally start seeding some of these torrents I DL... hehe. Anyways, if anyone has any invites to a solid torrent community, it would be much appreciated. I guess they're governing themselves accordingly.

Sad day for Pirates...

Yarghhh.

I am badly disappointed that mininova has made this move. I have a bunch of semi-popular TV shows that I would like to share and need a new site do this on. Any ideas?

As above posted said, btjunkie.org is a great site. Have been using for years, never any issues.

I think BT is dead now. Usenet is roaring though.

Pirate Bay is going strongly, from what I can determine. Demonoid is returning once they've relocated to Cyberbunker. Other than that, not much more out there :\ Until something new and wonderful appears XD

Demonoid is managed by a bunch of morons, they keep getting compromised or otherwise losing their database full of torrents and forum content. The people who manage it barely sink any time at all into it and when things go wrong they take forever to resolve as a result.

Demonoid hasn't been shut down by an outside force, they keep shutting themselves down.

Btjunkie is an indexing service, they index other torrent sites, but maybe isohunt will work for me :)

Now if only there was something that was 100x better than torrents, that is one of the 4 backbones of the internet, that is virtually untraceable and will exist until the end of time. If such an object were to exist, I would probably call it usenet; oh if only a usenet existed

That may be best in the long run, I mean who's going to go after a website that's down half the time anyways, lol.

Is there a problem with the pirate bay? I still use it...

TPB is no longer a tracker but the search engine still works and their torrents still point to DHT as a tracker, which is still up.

Really, nothing has changed.

Although I've always only used private trackers, so I don't have this problem when some die, the $8 a month for usenet access is so worth it.

I haven't used usenet for a while. I found that Shaw's usenet service wasn't very good, it never seemed to actually have all the parts for a particular file. Is it still like that?

What usenet provider are people using? Any good free ones?

Astraweb, I pay $8 a month, has everything. Shaw is slow in the evenings, but during the night, morning and daytime it maxes out my connection.

I use astraweb as well. $39 for 3 months (can't remember if it's USD or CAD) unlimited DSL. Downloading at 2mb/sec usually and have never looked back.

Shaw's was a joke. No big surprise there, as 99% of people use it to pirate stuff these days.

You need to pay for a good one - I use giganews. Like $13/mth and 36gigs. 365+days retention.

You should probably check out astraweb! I believe their retention is 457 days or something like that, with unlimited downloads for the same price!
