I've been working out at home doing the Testosterone Advantage plan. It's a book written by Mens Health, doesn't seem like the greatest work out plan, but I'm just doing it as a way to get somewhat prepared for P90x in the New Year.

I'm about two weeks in and soon they will be adding squats to the workouts. I don't have a squat rack and can't see me affording one anytime soon.

Anyone know of anyway to build something yourself, or where you can buy stands (I assume these aren't sold really anymore because of safety issues).

Or is there anything I could do in replace of the squats? I know they are the best exercise and are pretty much irreplaceable but for the amount of time I'll be doing this program I can't justify buying a 500 dollar power rack.

Squat with dumbells or do deadlifts instead.

^Werd. Deadlifts are great, most people don't do them often enough. It can't replace squats, but it is a good alternative option.

Yea, my routine calls for both deadlifts and squats. Actually found a nice weight bench on sale at Canadian Tire..299, on for 199. It has a piece that disattaches from the bench so you can use it as a walk in squat rack.

The ad is from early November but for $150.00 it's worth a shot

That's a great deal. Wish I was still in Calgary as I would have picked that up right away. I'm in Nova Scotia for the year for university.

Ended up picking up the bench from Crappy Tire. Now I have to put the damn thing together..

my suggestion... learn to clean, from there you can do front squats and overhead squats. May not be doings 200+ but still solid leg workouts. Also learn hack squat.

Not gonna hit the glutes the same way but hacks get your hammy's real good and your quads get smashed with front squats.

Better yet instead of P90x go see Tannaya or Rob of crossfit Halifax. Sunday classes are free.

Cleans, although great, won't be too much help once you're past beginner weights on the squat. Very few people clean in general, and of those even fewer can clean anywhere near enough weight to tax the legs. If you want to clean, start with cleaning for presses

Unfortunately I'm in Cape Breton in Sydney, so no access to any of the good stuff going on in Halifax.

P90x it is!

I heard good things about Crossfit, what is it all about?
