This is my buddy Derek tearing it up on Drag radials...

At 19 psi, the car twisted my dyno to the tune of 1480 rwhp. For this Vegas race, we had her turned up to 30 psi.... injector flow, and online hp calculators say about 2300 hp at 3540 pounds!

The 1480 rwhp dynorun, though that was a single turbo, he now has twin 88's

An earlier run, 7.56

I think this makes him the fastest Drag Radial car in Western Canada....

We may head back to Vegas in January, and turn her up so more

427 cubic inches, twin Garrett 4718r's. Was a single 115mm turbo, Jason at Epic converted her to twins. Water to Air intercooler, Poweglide Tranny, Neal Chance bolt together converter, Ford 9" Dif.

Driven by the owner, Derek P. Tuned my yours truly.

Record in Vegas at a regular PSCA event is only 7.52 (different set of rules, twin 88 mm turbo max etc).

In Vegas at the Street Car Super National Event, record is 7.22 and 208mph with big blocks allowed and max of twin 92mm turbos.

What a freakishly awesome run.

That seems like a seriously long staging time.

I really don't know these things but wouldn't the tires have like cooled off a lot? He did seem a little slippery at about 100-200 ft.

Really? In the 7.42 video you saw that?? Fuck, I suspected it spun due to what I saw in the datalogs, but I did not see it in the video lol...

Good eye.

Its not much but there is a little left - right - left at 1:30-1:31. The camera shake masks it I think.

Yeah, your timing is right... datalogs show a slight rpm flare at 1.7 to 1.9 seconds after he releases the trans brake... the driveshaft rpm does something funny as well, but not a flare like the engine rpm... more like a twitch. I think that the driveshaft speed sensor isn't maybe as accurate or has the resolution that the engine speed does.

But at 1.3 to 1.31 is where the car looks like the front wheels come down, this would take some weight off the back tires....

I think we may just have to pour on some boost at that point and see if she stays up a little longer keeping more wight on the back tires.....

Again - I really don't know this but it could be temperature.

I would do a couple of test burnouts with a thermocouple and see both how much the warm up based on how long they are spinning, and how much they cool off while staging.

Drag radials are a really weird tire. Once they get any heat in them, they are sticky for a long time.

On the dyno,I have big problems with higher power cars becasue they get so greasy.... the tire wont spin per se, but rather shed its outer skin....

Not only do they retain how sticky they are as they cool... they take FOREVER to cool. I imagine due to the steel belts.

I suspect the car will actually go faster with less heat in them.... but at this level, you have to make one hit, then make one small change, then try again... with only 3 passes, all we were able to do so far is tailor the boost controller 'curve' a bit... didnt even get to finisht that...

then there is tire pressures, then suspension tweaks, then engine timing at various spots, then .... back and forth. The southern US guys really have an advantage here as they can tweak almost year round...

The staging takes a while becasue you SHOULD "courtesy stage", but competitors often fuck with each other and try and "burn down" the turbo cars trying to creep in while building boost. Lucky for Derek, his car spools FAST, so the tactic didn't work lol
