Official Beyond.ca Pickup Hockey Players thread

It's that time of year again, and all of us are getting our skates sharpened, our sticks taped, and our teeth insured.

We've already had a couple threads about this so I figured it would be a good idea to get a list of guys who are interested in doing this anytime it comes up - might be able to get a consistent group of guys going.

Post your name(s), preferred position, and whether you've got full equipment or not. And please remember to turn off your signature to keep the thread easy to read.

Id be in for this. When and Where. I rented some ice for beyond players. Lots said they'd come out....only one person showed up. Ended up costing me $180 out of my pocket.

Up until my injury, I played a minimum of three hours and as much as five hours a week - the guy found me on Beyond.

I have to be at work until 3 Saturday, and after a few calls it has been looking pretty slim picking...
But i'll take what i can get.

.. still looking, while trying to be as open minded for arenas as i can... Ive had some bad experiences, some have less than good ice. (will edit)

Just phone the city and see whats available. Any of the city arenas will be good enough. Ice time is $205 per hour, so you might want to ask for a good $15 per person. And just do an hour.

Called the city today, and they have a tonn of openings for saturday afternoon/early evening.
I'd be down for an hr game. But so far only have 3-4 possible people down.

If i get more "100%, yes i'll play", then i'll book it Thurs AM or something.

I got a few buddies that are likely down too, so thats 5-6, but keep it coming beyond.. .Ask your buddies, lets get a game going.

Next season i'll definitely have some games going.
Then i will only have to hunt down 1 goalie after that :thumbsup:

I've had luck with other beyonders reading up this thread and asking me to sub in on their teams..... so its not all bad.

I've been to 1 all beyond.ca game - forget who organized it now... it was last spring.. it was great, about 15 people I think... :thumbsup:

Really short notice but we have some ice and looking to fill some spots.

Skill level is not the best as some of the guys have only skated total of three times not including this ice time.

I'd be in as long as it doesn't conflict with a league game - we play weekly on Fri OR Sat nights until middle of May, then we're done.

Oh I don't really care. I'll skate with beginners and ex-pro's. I'd just like to get out again. Not really into playing league again though. I "hung 'em up" for that.

I'd be interested in playing some shinny. I'm a beginner level though, just started out this year. Do you need full gear to play at the indoor rinks? All I have is skates/stick/gloves which was fine for playing around at the outdoor rinks all winter.

We play with full gear. 25% can do the full hockey movements, forward/backwards/crossovers/shoot. The rest of us are like the 1/4mile, in a straight line. :burnout: It's a bit of a gong show out there, our first session was last night, in the words of Heinz256, Adults Timbits hockey! We try not to be too blatant with the offsides but hey, beginners like I said.

We had 10 a side last night and it was still really good. I managed to divide the teams up evenly and game was tied 4-4. Half of the team was from Beyond. :D

I'll let you guys know when I get ice.

As an unbiased observer, there's a lot of bodies hitting the floor for Adult Timbits Hockey lol.

Im tempted to buy goalie skates and do ice hockey for the first time ever if there's room.

I might get some lessons before strapping as I've never skated before.

It was just tonight for whatever reason bodies were flying! I think we had more collisions tonight than we did in all the sessions combined! :eek: Either that or the guys have been playing together weekly they don't care anymore. :rofl:

Tonight was one of the more faster pace games, you can thank Shadowz and his ringer buddies. It's good when they are on your side though. :D

It's for fun and good fitness, I potted a goal tonight and had another 4-5 solid chances except I have no hands. :banghead:

I just picked up all my gear. This would be my first season actually playing, as last year I got skates and started gliding around and playing at the rinks. I signed up for our company league and want to develop my skills (or lack thereof) this season

haha Actually I was going to say you are doing just fine out there. Your first few shifts I saw you get a couple good shots on net. The hockey was pretty good for mostly rookies. They were keeping their heads up and having a look before just dumping the puck away. :thumbsup:

Hey Beyond. I have ice this Sunday night from 9:45pm to 11:00pm. It just so happens to coincide with my league game and another shinny. City won't let me cancel lol I have two goalies lined up but need skaters.

We cap at 22 skaters and right now I think I only have 6 skaters confirmed. Send me a message if you would like to play and I will give you more details.
