Jesus....how'd you feel if you did this to your own goalie. Looks like he doesn't even know he did it:

I would want to know what the fuck that idiot was thinking? was it intentional?

Ballard is a friggin idiot

Pretty sure it wasn't intentional, just frustration that was pure idiocy. You see players all the time slam their sticks on the posts after a goal but to be close enough to hit your goalie, let alone whack him in the head...brutal!

Ballard is truly an idiot. Not sure how he can show his face in the lockerroom after that.

I'm personally choked, have Vokoun in my work pool :whipped:

Needs to control his frustration. One thing for sure is that no matter whatever his penalty is (suspension, fine, jeering) no one can punish him like he probably is doing to himself on the inside. He's the one who has to live with himself.

Update: Vokoun has a Lacerated Ear...Ballard feels like shit

suspension cant stop stupidity, theres absolutely no point of suspending him imo. If you need some kind of rule to stop you from doing something as fucking stupid as swinging your stick at your own goalies head, you shouldnt even be playing in the first place.

what is there to say the guy sucks at controling his anger and like in many other situations this anger caused more hamr than anticipated.

Anger management classes and off the team till then, that's what I'd say.

It happens. I'm sure he feels like shit. Life goes on.

Now the better injury is Ovechkin who got what he deserves. I hope his knee is blown out for a season. Serves him right for all those dirty hits knee to knee he likes to do.

I was fucking livid when I saw that highlight last night (I have Ovie in my hockey pool) but I know what you're talking about. He does seem to go for a disproportionate amount of knee on knees.

What happened to Vokun is a freak but preventable injury. The league will not step in and do anything about this, if anything the team might fine him bench him but to be honest there was no intent to harm his own goalie so nothing will come of it.

Ovie I hate to say it cause this guy is amazing to watch, but this was a long time coming and couple weeks back don cherry called it that he will get what is due to him. As much as the league does not want to suspend this guy, he should get min 5 games. Laraque got 5 games for his knee on knee hit on the wings player Kronwall.
My guess would be that the league will give him 3 games max for his hit though

Maybe its what vokun needed? haha

Lucky for Ballard that Vokun is fine or going to be fine. Nothing a nice diner & beers can't patch over.

i think the appropriate punishment would be for vokoun to do it back, but with a goalie stick..

I think just anger management classes should be okay. suspending him is stupid IMO since players/coaches get into fights ON PURPOSE during practices and no suspensions get handed out.

This.

As for Ovie, I also hope he has put himself out for longer than he gets suspended for. IF he even gets suspended.

Refer to previously posted Injury/suspension flowchart. :D

Edit: Ballard was also on the ice covering the player that scored the GWG in that game.... What a tool.

the thing is that what he did was intentional. Of course he didn't mean to hit his own goalie (or anyone else, for that matter), but the actual baseball-swing of his stick was a deliberate move. If he 'accidently' hit a member of the opposing team, or an official, swinging his stick like that it would be 20-40 games. Probably more.

The league should suspend him for this very reason. It's okay to injure your own teammate like that, but against the rules to do it to someone else:dunno:

Anyone whos played competitive sports will understand what im about to post and those who were 100% gamers or book readers will flame me.
He just got scored on and went to smack the post. This happens every night in the NHL and its frustration. Its unfortunate that such a routine post whack went bad. I feel bad for ballard and feel he should serve some time on the bench but dont think it is nearly as bad as other things that happen. I agree to have the NHL suspend him and personally think that such an act (not hitting the goalie but breaking sticks over posts) should be a automatic unsportsmanlike penalty.
The comment above about fights in practice not seeing league action is because its practice and not televised and watched by tens of thousands of people where this game was.

^This. Extm88 gets it. Every guy has smashed his stick over the net, boards, glass at one time. Teammates don't even blink an eye. Guys have flipped out, smashing things apart in the locker room...teammates just learn to stay out of the way, not say anything and let him cool down. EVERY player does it.
This was just an unfortunate incident. An accident. He'll feel like shit and Vokoun will call him an asshole..but that will be the end of it.
I started with a new team one time. Very first game in warm up I nailed our goalie in the ear with a rocket that dropped him like a rock. He almost didn't start the game...I felt like shit, but no one even made me feel bad.

^ it's because guys don't make shit worse than it is. it happens, so what, move on. your teamates should be the last people who give you shit about it.

What sports did you play?

You'd be hard pressed to find any hockey player that thinks the league should get involved. It's an internal team issue. Done deal.

I loved Pat Quinn's comment on the whole thing: "The only thing that would've made it worse was if he had connected again with his second swing!" Hahahahaha!!
