Back up my driveway, put it on 1st gear and the thing doesn't even move. That's when you know you're gonna have a great day driving today :nut:

What has your RWD car done for you lately in this snowdump that we call Calgary? :burnout:

Like any rwd i've had during winter, i've got a good set of winter tires and some good weight in the back....my truck works just fine! It's all about being prepared and having the correct setup

Lol, RWD was kind of a pain yesterday, you have to really plan out how to get around places to avoid hills etc. Snow mode with the traction control is great though, really helps level out your throttle so you don't spin.

My 4x2 F150 is parked right now. It's a utility beast just used for hauling trash to the dump and other such stuff.

The WRX, with its brand new winter tires, is loving these roads. :D

My car would have almost been alright if it wasn't so low. Main roads were fine but once I hit residential on the way home I was plowing through all the drifts. Might put some weight in my trunk but my car is really heavy already:dunno:

One of the best winter cars I ever owned was rwd. Corolla GTS with winter tires could go through anything, so light andy easy to control. That car was a blast on days like today.

Friday was worse. At least now there is a ton of powder to help you stop.

RWD + Winter tires is a lot more entertaining than FWD + winter tires.

What does it matter .. if RWD or FWD? :dunno:

I think it is matter of tires?

Couple feet of snow in front of my house, (bad spot) and I have no issue with over 400HP RWD, since I have snow tires on .. my AWD car, is actually sitting in my garage, cannot go nowhere, and will go nowhere... :(

I do agree AWD+snow tire would be the best.

I still dont understand this thread .. :dunno:

Should it be "how do u like summer/all season tire on snow?"

My car is too low to get out of my street right now with all the deep loose powder (I live on a cul-de-sac)... I am not even gonna try knowing it will probably do more damage to the bottom of the car than anything. I'll wait to try it out tomorrow when the snow is a bit more compacted. Using my wife's subaru tonight.

My AWD can't go out since is too low :banghead:, decided to take the RWD truck with crappy all weather tires and had to turn back cause I was all over the road, didn't think I needed winters this year since the truck is barely used:banghead:, had to take the FWD with winters and didn't have any problems. Even managed to get out of a 2 foot pile up of snow around it, but after I got to work I found out it needs new spark plug wirers LOL, I'm not sure if the bitch is going to start tonight after work.

My 1wd ranger went everywhere I pointed it, but I also know that it doesn't do hills well at all. Did 100+ kms in the storm, didn't have a problem... but I did grow up in a place where storms like this are common, and I have winters.

Was fun digging people out of the street in front of my buddies house today... 2 awd with winters and 1 summer tire alero, all high centred.

My shitty 92 240sx rocks in this weather especially with a couple MTX 9500s in the hatch to weigh it down. Key is the rubber staggered 225/40/18 & 245/40/18 Yoko W drive winters. They are a little wide but good enough traction. I love the drive around town and havent been stuck yet anywhere. :dunno:

I think the point is that everyone always says S2Ks and 350Zs are fine in the winter if you just buy winter tires. You'd be crazy to go out in those cars right now.

It's more to do with ground clearance than anything. AWD that's lowered could get stuck just as easily as a stock height RWD sedan.

Still all things being equal an AWD car >> RWD or FWD in these conditions.

Rwd hatch, doing just fine. Tends to "float" over the raised center snow-portions in the road, almost gotten stuck a few times. On another note, someone needs to plow my fucking culdesac because its almost impossible to escape.

Yes you are crazy!

But also it depends on where you're going too. As some parts of the city have some very deep snow and some have barely any on the roads.

2+ foot drifts here. 180 goes first, clears the way and gets stuck, then its smooth sailing for every other car.

MrPlow1

They should rework their plowing strategy, and plow the SW absolutely first, then move to the SE. They can go for coffee, relax, etc. and then move up to the NW. Then finally, plow the NE.

I'm loving my car right now! Saving gas with more efficient turns . Plus if I lose control I just clutch in and correct it. If I get stuck and putting it in 2nd or 3rd gear doesn't work the I guess its time for the shovel and sand.

In the end if you don't drive like an idiot you won't cause an accident like an idiot.

Sometimes leaving home is a pain though, since Edgemont is all hills. Though the other beyond members on my street look like there having a fun time in there AWD cars.

I know! Thats why they have there own class in the ice racing league. They are underpowered so you cant really screw up to much. And having the 5 speed (borg-wagner t5 ftw!) makes it better!

The RWD car is parked untill next race season

the RWD truck does very well. I drove out to lake louise this morning at 7am and did no less then 100km/h
even last friday was a breeze. while watching people spin off stoney trail i had no problems
truck has half worn all-seasons on the front and winters on the back. in retrospect I wish i got winters all around when i had the good deal.

Half dozen of us "volunteers" pushed an RX8 about a block since he was high centred in the middle of Douglasdale BLVD.
Later, I was driving my truck up and down our cul de sac to pack the snow down.
Hey It's even snowing in Houston!

I think its all a matter of ride height and clearance right now. I was driving my RWD car (with winters obviously) in the previous recent snow falls without a problem. In fact it was fun to drive!

FWD + snow tires dont really help, neither would AWD if there isnt much clearance.

I have a mk2 Supra with winters on the back, I think they're too worn, been beating them getting stuck lately.

My has been too low and getting stuck a lot too, which is a shame because up until the snow gets deep enough that I'm high centered it's the best in the winter, especially with it's LSD, I'm usually laughing at people, I tried last winter with all my might to get it stuck, I couldn't.

This dump however, I keep getting stuck in some spots. So bunk. Maybe it helped that last year I had my subs in the trunk. Took them out so they wouldn't crack..

Right now ride height is the most important thing. Most residential streets still haven't been plowed and now the snow in the middle of the lanes has hardened and I don't think anything rwd/awd/fwd will be trouble free unless it's an SUV or truck. There is a road a little up north of arbour lake that is just fucked. Got stuck halfway and then just backed it out of there.

I got AWD with winters and been stuck a few times just cause its been lowered a bit. Really need to get a set of coilovers and then I'm king.

Got home Fri night and went out Sat morning. No issues here w/new winter tires (after I plowed the top layer off my road for lowered car). High centered once in the industrial area in the afternoon but 5 min of clearing snow out from under the rear subframe brace, rear diff and swaybar I was good to go.

Personally, I turn my trac control off. I hate it, if you're slipping, it makes it worse because it starts braking your back wheels in deep snow then you start sinking. A little throttle feathering with trac off and you're golden.

Every vehicle I saw abandoned on the roads this weekend were all front wheel drive or SUV's? Coincidence?

Put them in a garbage bag and tie it. Keeps the trunk cleaner.

Winter tires + sandbags will do the trick just fine, asides from ground clearance. I got 3 times the other day after that big snow fall, the underside just kept getting completely wedged in snow.
