yeah you use one made out of JDM gold, they work really good.

Its JDM so you have to over-night one from JDMland.
Just kidding nigel! haha
Its no Civic for sure though, when and if the time comes, you will notice a big difference in maintenance/parts costs.

Oem for sure... you can actually get the jdm filters through certain toyota dealers. I prefer them because they're smaller so they work great if you have a sandwich plate for oil temp/pressure sensors.

oem filters are the best but any filter will work just remember that you get what you pay for so you dont want to just cheap out on one

I used OEM and K&N and I have to admit I really like the wrench off nut on the K&N's. Makes removal a breeze.

Yeah that filter is in a bad spot especially if you have an upgraded SMIC and hard pipes. It was impossible to remove the filter without spilling some oil down the back of the block. Turbo install wasn't that fun either especially getting that massive banjo bolt for the oil supply line on and off. Actually in a strange way those were good times ha ha ha ha.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Toyota has two available oil filters for your car. Both should have part number 90915 at the start. The one that ends in YZZ## is the cheaper one, there is another that Redlyne referred to as the "JDM" filter. People can laugh all they want, but this is a better built filter than the other ones, even though they're both sold by Toyota. You'll pay slightly more for this filter, but it's better for your car, and was on the engine when it rolled out of the factory.

what the difference? lol they must have made it for some apparent reason.. doesn't seem logical to me for them to design and manufacture two different filters for the exact same motor.. lol

As long as it's nothing made by Fram you're usually safe. Remember a lot of brands get Fram to make their filters for them. They are held together by cardboard and string. I use Wix, Napa Gold (pretty much a WIX) or OEM.

Here are some different toyota filters, and a fram which you can see the filter(not a very dense one at that) is held together by cardboard.
