no offence but judging from ur old thread about ur legend ur really not a car pro like you say... obviously you looking at 1980 bmws is really idiotic! have fun seeking parts for those...

anyways enough of the bashing, if your looking into buying another car I suggest getting a pre inspection done on it.. if your patient (unlike me which i am not ill cut my losses and just buy the car if i really want it) get it saftied before you buy the car so it saves you money in the long run, chances are some sellers, not always sketchy wont let you take the car for inspection because
a) they know it wont pass
b) their afraid the car wont come back, (somebody like me)

I dont know if there are safety inspectors that are mobile anymore to do vehicle inspections at ur home but i would try that.

Another suggestion I give you is buy a damn 4 door civic! so damn reliable! why waste ur time looking at something thatll cost a fortune to maintain?

Thank you!

Well for starters you kind of own one of the cars I would recommend in your price range, and the poster above really does have some valid points.

I think the key when you are trying to buy a luxury car around this age is the previous owner. Make sure you have records, and buy a car from someone who cared about the car. And definitely get a full inspection.

I don't want to harp on this but LS400's are still a good buy in this price range, providing you find a well maintained and cared for one.

My parents have had an Acura 3.5RL for a long while now and it has been flawless reliability-wise and a nice cruising luxury car.

This car does not really tie into the "owner cared" column, but the low mileage is a curiousity if true, maybe worth doing some detailed research into if it is actually the true stated mileage.

Occasionally I have seen late model I30's go for almost nothing on the used market, may be a good car to look into. Same with ES300's and GS300's

http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-cars-1993-Lexus-GS-Sedan-W0QQAdIdZ164937113

Lastly, don't rush into anything, wait for what you want, it will come up eventually. I wouldn't touch a 80's BMW personally, however if you find that gem 1 or 2 Owner Benz which was owned by a Geriatric and always dealer maintained, it might be worth a second look - Mercedes made select good quality cars up until the mid-90's.

If you're on a budget I would stay away from old Bimmers and Benz's unless you have a couple grand lying around to fix it if something serious goes wrong.

Nissan Maxima would fit into your criteria.

LS400s and Q45s all the way, flagship cars for their day and cheap and last forever (there was a LS400 on here with over 400k on it not too long ago)

I've got a 1997 Infiniti I30T that i've been thinking about putting up for sale..

Its got 210xxxkms, runs and drives great, doesn't need anything. I just did all new rotors and calipers (on all 4 corners) literally 200kms ago. It also comes with 70% Micheline X-ice winter tires. Black with Beige leather interior, Cd player, heated seats.

I'll probably be posting it for the $3k mark.

Let me know if your interested and I can send you some pics.

*Reason for selling - I have a Silvia for summer and I just received my Hilux for winter.

Legend. Just buy a nice one. They have more options than most cars have nowadays even. It's a very love/hate kinda relationship with mine but I still love every minute of driving. It definitely has enough get up and go to play around with a good deal of cars out there as well.

Time for a math lesson. I've seen ">" misused more often in the last couple weeks than in the last 20 years of my life.

> means Greater Than. So by saying "poor man's luxury car >5000" You're saying that you want a car that costs Greater Than $5000
< means Less Than... see how it kinda looks like a slanted L?... L for Less.

But from your verbage, it would seem that neither of these represent what you're really looking for... You're saying that you want a car for approximately $5000. You could represent this by saying "Poor Man's Luxury Car ~$5000"

If you're still having trouble, think of > and < as an alligator with it's mouth open. Alligators like to eat the bigger item cuz they're hungry. 1 < 2 MMmmmm yum, 2 is bigger than 1.

I've got a 1994 Mercedes C280 with 90,000kms I could let go for close to that price. Only 89,000kms, let me know if you would be interested.

^^^ How the hell would you know? Do you know the vehicle personally?

Looks like it is in decent condish. Plus, Snaatch is a regular member... who I would be somewhat inclined to believe over many others.

That Mercedes might not be a horrible buy. The parts are fairly expensive, but they are one of the best built cars around. (Those years, anyway)

LS400 I think would be a great choice. Lexus has amazing reliability and solid engineering.

I'd probably sell the wife's 1993 E36 325i (http://forums.beyond.ca/st/268929/1993-e36-325i/) for $6K, less the 18" Falkens but with E46 style 54 wheels and like-new Nexen winters....

your gonna argue the fact that you actually beleive the car has 90,000 original miles without any sort of maintence records to prove that?

are you fucking stupid? No offence to SNAATCH but youd have to be moronic to spend that much on an old mercedes, without any proof the odometor hasnt been rolled back, maintence records?

Get a cheap car OP... your a student you dont need a fancy ass car thatll cost you a fortune to maintain..

You got screwed with ur legend, your gonna get analed with a higher end car.. So this doesnt sound like a rank im willing to help you out, In a few minutes i found a load of cars for ur price range thatll last you in the long run and be almost free of any sort of problems

I'd love to see him prove you wrong Shlade and prove that you're a retard for jumping to conclusions.

But IMO OP, you're better off buying a civic or something along those lines. There's no point looking for a luxury car for $5000....which is going to cost you plenty more for repair later on. Luxury is for those who can afford it...and it does not seem like you can.

And honestly...I've seen like 5 of these $5000 car threads this week...can't you guys just use the search button.

Such hostility!!

You are obviously not aware that aside from the fact that car could have been owned my by people who hardly used it locally, it could in fact be a JDM import (yes, many european cars there were lhd) There are many used bmw and benz out there with super low kms.......what is so hard to believe???

I also vouch for Snaatch as being a stand up guy

Here a jdm import 1992 model, only 54K, you going to argue that too?

+1

Shalde, do you know the car? It looks like it is in pretty good shape to me, there are many low mileage cars around which have been driven rarely. Snaatch has been on here for a while, I would definitely give him the benefit of your doubt before jumping to conclusions.

A good friend of mine had one of these C220's for a while, it had about 300k when he sold it and the only thing that he had to replace was a fuel pump which froze when it got too cold outside. It it worth taking a look at.

You simply can't go wrong with this car. It's stylish, luxurious, fast and well priced.

You ARE kidding right Mephesto?

1) He's looking for something of decent quality.
2) That is hardly stylish, luxurious, OR fast.
3) Well priced, maybe. That's because you spend the extra money on all the repairs.

As far as the OP's concern, I agree with G-ZUS. A luxury car should not be a consideration so early in the "driving game". While they are often better built than many other cars, when they DO have a problem, it is usually uber-expensive to fix.

I like the idea of a well maintained LS400. If I could find a decent condition mid 90's one for about 3-4k I think it would make a great highway cruiser.

They're poor man's luxury cars because they make you poor owning one. They're cheap to buy but maintenance costs over the years can easily exceed the original price of the car.

I have a 1993 LS400 in MINT shape! I absolutly love the car. I have never had problems with it. I was maybe the 3rd owner of the car and the thing still runs as if it was brand new. With studded tires and traction control the thing easily outdoes my New TSX with Blizzaks. And the car looks great too!

They hold their value. Even with high KM's the Blackbook on my ol' LS is still around 4300.

Yup, I had a 91 LS400 and that thing was fantastic. Holds value, ULTRA reliable and had a really luxurious/quality feel to it.

Ultra low milage one with only 88km for under $4g's here:
