So I want to have 4x120mm case fans running on AC power. What is the best method to do this?

I was looking around my house for an older AT style power supply that I can just leave in the on position with the 4 fans hooked up to it but I can only find ATX ones.

Is there a more elegant solution like a smaller AC to DC converter?

I run 2x120mm case fans off of an old AC adapter that I had for a cordless phone that I didn't use. I just cut the ends of the fans and AC adapter, soldered the wire together and plugged it into the wall. I'm sure you could wire an on/off switch in if you wanted.

Yea any old 5-12V wall wort would work.

Don't use an AT/ATX power supply, not only is it overkill but it might also fry, they need more load to run properly. Cheapo wallwarts are the way to go, but you need to consider the voltage and current of the fan, along with the speed you want to run the fans at.

Hmm thanks for the tip on the power supply, didn't know that. I used to have all this junk but I threw it all out when moving. Never need this stuff until you throw it out.

12VDC 1A supplies are very common and the way to go if you want to run them all full speed
