328 sucks to drive if you want an auto, I drive one. C300 would be a much better choice.

I personally would take a RWD.

WHY DOES IT SUCK IN AUTO??

I HAVE NEVER OWNED A RWD IN WINTER.

WHY MUST YOU TYPE IN CAPS?
IT SUCKS IN AUTO BECAUSE ITS AN AUTO. THE MERCEDES ONLY COMES IN AUTO SO YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT WITH THE BMW YOU CAN GET THE 5SPD.

Mercedes has the greatest automatic transmission with the 7G-TRONIC. It is quicker than if it was a 5spd, but not as much fun. BMW's auto trannys are not as good as the Mercedes.

the benz

Between the two, the BMW.

But I find the BMW 3 series to be an extremely "me-too" car. This coming from a Civic owner.

hmm 328's are a bit bland and boring (performance wise). If you can upgrade to the 335i its night and day. SO having had said that, i would choose the benz.

I'd take the Benz.

335 is definitely a step up, and I don't consider them to have the same... I dunno... Normalness of other 3 series cars.

we looked at them last year, but forgot minor details

The C300 is probably the better choice between these two because of the 7 speed auto which is very smooth, both look great though.

4 door bimmas are kinda ugly. Coupe form they are pure sex...But four door not so much.

Voted mercedes as well.

How would you feel about paying AT LEAST $300 every 15,000kms to service the car at MB? Just keep that in mind.

With BMW, it's FREE for 4 years, 80,000kms.

Something to think about.

Personally, the Benz is the nicer car.

voted for benz cuz i owned a 09 c300 RWD and its not hard to drive in the winter when you have winters on. and its very good car quick response and with 228hp is good enough for daily driving

jesterme2007

Hmmm SO the Benz is ahead. Not by much though!

They drive so different. I wish it was summer so I could take them both out on dry payment. To me the BMW feels more connected in the steering and the benz feels softer and the ride is smooth.

I guess as the sales men said at BMW " I would much prefer to ride along in a benz but I would rather drive a bmw" very true. I also find that the benz offers more space in side and the car looks more aggressive on the outside IMO, LOVE IT IN WHITE :poosie:

Keep the votes going! :D

Both these cars are Civic sized inside. That's one thing that you notice right away when you get in there.

Tough choice between the two. IMO C class has a much nicer looking exterior. BMW has better driving dynamics.

Have you looked at an Audi A4 quattro? Nicer inside than both the benz or merc if that's important.

I'm going to say benz, but I own one. I will agree with mowglee that the 7G-TRONIC transmission is fantastic, very smooth and quick gear changes. I do however love my 5G-TRONIC, and they still use it in the v12 S-class and CL's as its Merc's only tranny that can handle the v12's torque at the moment - I don't know why the 7G ended up being more fragile..Either way:

Edit: I do however have trouble believing that someone who types in caps lock would be purchasing either of the two..

I hope your delivery is as quick as that, mine in the past sure haven't been.

Please don't lump all BMW transmissions in the same category.

The tranny in the 328 is a GM (General Motors) tranny and it is a piece.

The transmission in the 335i is Hands down WAY better than the 7G-TRONIC. It is even better than the 7G-TRONIC with AMG speed shift. It is sloppy and reaction times are brutally slow. The 6HP in the 335 rivals automated manuals in my opinion and also blips the throttle on downshifts.

Personally, I would look for a C350 or a 335i in a 2008 model. They can be found for around $40K.

I'm thinking the same thing. The coupe BMW is very nice, but the sedan has god-ugly taillights, imo.

Has Mercedes improved their quality yet? I know they have had some very, very dark years lately....

You picked two cars that are so close together that the vote is going to depend more on who has driven each one. I personally love them both, but that wasent an option.

Best bet is to drive both and see since there very close in all aspects.

Doesn't the new 3-series sedan have nearly the same ass as the coupe?

They are getting much better than they were at the beginning of this decade (especially looking at the problems per 100 vehicles values), but I don't think they'll ever be back up to par with their past vehicles like the W123 and W126 - especially with the push for technology being at its peak. The W221 apparently is one of their biggest stepping stones back to bulletproof transportation though, and its getting fantastic customer reviews. The industry average for problems per 100 vehicles is 170, and the S-Class averaged 74.5. Don't know about the new c's yet though.

C300 4matic MSRP: $36450

M3 MSRP: $80300 - $84200

I'll take two loaded benz's please. Completely different car, thats like me saying I'd rather have an IS-F or GT-R than a 328i - obvious, but besides the point at hand.

You posted a pic of a C63 and then a base 323i later on I was just trying to even it out haha.

Also looks like you posted a US price for the C300 and Canadian one for the BMW  C300 4matic starts around $45,000

IMO, 3 series sedan like sticking Angelina Jolie head on a 3ft midget body.

C300 for sedan, 3 series for coupe.

LOL, no, before the 328 I was driving a new Civic, Civic interior was smaller and used the space terribly, it might look the same because of the ridiculous 2 foot dash in front of the steering wheel.

Again I have to say C300>328i, imo the C-Class looks better, but the biggest reason is the crap auto in the 328i. If it was a 335 it would be a different story, in which case I would take the bimmer over any C-class other than the AMG.

I also get a lot of creaking noises in the BMW, the fan when the heat is on is squeeking and something in the back seat area when I'm moving slowly and going over bumps.

That is the window surround on the back window. As the interior heats, it begins to expand making the noise... haha.

happens on my 335 all the time.

It's closer than that you think. The most important things for me are headroom and legroom since I am not all the wide.

Civic EX Sedan 3-Series 328i Sedan C-Class C300

Front Headroom (in.) 38.10 38.50 37.10
Rear Headroom (in.) 36.70 37.50 36.90
Front Legroom (in.) 42.20 41.50 41.70
Rear Legroom (in.) 34.60 34.60 33.40
Front Shoulder R(in.) 53.60 55.40 54.70
Rear Shoulder R (in.) 52.30 55.10 55.10
Front Hip Room (in.) 51.90 No data 52.30
Rear Hip Room (in.) 51.00 No data 54.90

Not sure you would regret getting a c300 over a 328i, you might regret not getting something more powerful like a 335i though.

I drove both. If i had to choose one, i would go with the C300.. I had the BMW 328 with Auto tranny for a week as a loaner from the dealer and wasn't too happy with it. I drove friends C300 and felt there was more quality.. But the 335i is a different story.

If i had to do it all over again i would have gone with a C63... Too bad it wasn't out when i needed to get something ASAP...
