Well I believe I have decided on a car to replace my 350Z. I was initially looking into a wagon, but after driving a 06 Jetta I was very surprised. The ride quality is excellent, and I love the 2.0T engine, seems to make power in any gear which is nice, helps to eliminate a lot of downshifting in city driving.

The car I found has 73K kms, fully loaded, 6 speed. I have no experience with the Jetta, so i am looking for anyone who is very familiar with them that may know things to look for. Also the owners manual is not in the car so i am not sure about servicing, is there any VW specific service items??

The tag in the window states not to service till 80,000kms, so what is the oil range rating?? I heard the oil changes are expensive, is this because of synthetic??

Any advice would be great!

Take a look at the following forums at vwvortex:

General forum for the mk5 Jetta and GTI

Technical forum for the 2.0t fsi engine that is in the Jetta you are looking to purchase

Good luck in your new car purchase.

The oil changes aint all that expensive. The oil itself is 40 bux for a 5L jug at walmart(castrol synt). The filter is 11 bux at the dealer.

If your gonna get a dealer to do it they will charge half an hour rate ontop(their hourly rate is 115 now i think)

They are pretty decent cars...but they can have their problems. Check eurodrivers.ca and see what the guy say that actually own it.

I think its a good chasis and regardless of FSI or TSI, the 2.0L engine is solid and has potential...

there were some recall issues w/ the FSI, that again can be handled thru a dealer...
