For those interested. Still beta so use at your own risk!!

On crackberry people say major upgrades include:
- Threaded SMS (Awesome!)
- Horizontal Scrolling of pictures (like iPhone)
- Works a little quicker (boots up faster)
- When theres no messages in the SMS folder, it now says *No Messages
- When setting the alarm clock, when scrolling through the hours/minutes/on and off, when you hit the upper or lower limit the numbers "bounce" if you keep scrolling

OS Disclaimer - Please Read: Keep in mind this is NOT an official release and as such is not supported by RIM or your Carrier. If you choose to install, do so at your own risk and only if you're comfortable in the process of upgrading and downgrading your device software. It is quite normal during operating system development for certain features to be crippled or disabled while others are tested, and these beta builds often reflect that. They are not always better. Depending on your BlackBerry comfort level, it may be best for you to wait for community feedback on a build before deciding to download and install for yourself or simply wait for the next official release. If you require support, you will find it in our CrackBerry forums via our extremely knowledgeable community base - do not contact your carrier or RIM for Beta OS technical support (their first course of action will be to advise you to downgrade to a supported OS).

Enjoy!

I had it the Blackberry OS5 on mine a while ago and it kept crashing. Unstable and was forced to do a reload.

Thank god for backups.

UGH. :banghead:

I have no problems with waiting for the official OS releases for my devices. I rely on them too much to be dicking around with beta OS versions.

I'm running .314 on my BB 9000 as well. The version before this(.409), completely fucked up my BB, so I don't trust .411 until I hear otherwise.

This software is awesome! I haven't had any issues and the threaded SMS is deadly!

I searched on crackberry forums but am still unclear as to the difference between threaded sms and what I'm getting now.

Threaded SMS basically makes the SMS functionality in your handset behave in a manner similar to a BBM chat. All the messages are stored in one long 'thread'. Replying is done in a similar fashion to BBM chats as well... type... hit [Enter].

Same situation.
I find .314 to be quite stable. No problems, no crashing, no nothing. I enjoy the threaded SMS, and after reading some feedback on .411, I don't wanna go through the trouble of reloading.

You bumped an old thread to tell us you're not using an outdated version of BB OS 5.0 for your handset.

.610 is out now.

(As you can imagine from my first post in this thread, I have since reversed my stance on using Beta OSes. Hell, I use hybrid OSes now and would never go back to a factory OS.)

Any noticeable differences that make it worth upgrading?

Yes, find your device below and look at what release/beta software is available then look at the release notes. My most recent update fixed some annoying SMS bugs and increased the battery life a shit-tonne!

If you found the browser was fast on one OS, but slow on the most recent, then you just take the browser from the old OS, etc.

Generally, the benefits are more available application memory (which is especially important on the Bold 9000), faster browsing, and faster bootup times. And when I say faster bootup times, I mean sub-1:00. My handset is booting in ~55 seconds from a battery pull.

I usually check out these two sites:

http://www.bbhybrids.net/
http://www.blackberryos.com/

BlackBerryOS is my preferred site, I'm currently running the Alexander Ekin Bold 9000 Hybrid V643, and it works well for me. However, he just released a new one yesterday using v662 based off v610, which I'm about to give a shot. BBHybrids has some handy tools like Shrink-a-OS which lets you decide what the OS does and doesn't install.

Avoid the Bold 9000 v662 Hybrid just released.

Damn thing is not agreeing with my handset at all, I'm reverting back to the v643 I had previously.

EDIT: Nevermind, I fixed it. I completely uninstalled the .610 I had, reinstalled it, and then installed the Hybrid pack. Working much better now.
