If you have plpd, it doesnt matter what you drive, your rates will always be the same. You arent getting collision are you?

your insurance if plpd will be based on the driver, not the car.

the criteria for your rates are your age, how long youve been licensed, how many tickets, if any, if youve been insured before/how long, Territory, etc...

Collision probably isn't worth it for a car that old, unless you're sinking a lot of money into it.

I'd say just stick with liability and maybe put comprehensive on it if you're afraid of the car getting ruined when you're not in it.

Get a quote, though.

How does the car not effect insurance? that makes no sense at all.

I drive a 93 Caddy deville and it costs literally half what my 240 costs to insure. I made a comment about this to my agent and she told me 240s have gone up due to high rate of collisions in the car as well as theft is quite common as well. Call me crazy but I almost sold it due to it just being a daily driver and pretty close to bone stock I really didnt want to dish out the funds for it.

Color of car effects insurance as well as your postal code there is alot of bs with insurance but it doesnt even matter becuase there it no way around it

As a new driver you'll be looking at basically around $2000 just for plpd alone

It doesn't affect your liability insurance (PLPD) since presumably you can do the same amount of damage (your insured liability cost, which I think is a minimum of $500K in AB) to other people in an S13 as you can in a Pinto.

COLOUR does not AFFECT your insurance rates. They haven't for about 20 years now.

However your postal code may (but not always). Something that is coming around in insurance now is your credit rating / history as well. More and more companies are starting to factor it in. It's been used in the USA for quite some time now.

I've also been asked if I drive to work/school in it and where I park my cars. # of kms I drive a month, etc.

factors for pricing:

Third Party Liability (PLPD) - Age, License History, Insurance History, Claims, Convictions, territory(postal code - rural vs urban), amount of liability $1 million vs 2 million.

Comprehensive - vehicle (value - the rate group the vehicle belongs to. determined by actuaries of each insurance company and also by the Canadian Loss Experience Automobile Rating) theft rate of that certain vehicle. 99-00 civic SIR vs. lexus is300. you get the picture.

Collision coverage - PLPD factor + Comprehensive Factor ( vehicle )

Alberta liability Minimum is $200K (highly not recommended) but No insurance can refuse it if you request it.

Color does not affect your insurance rates.

Even if your just looking for Basic 1 Million Third Party Liability(PLPD), still look around. Although PLPD price is standard anywhere you go. Some companies offer discounts on the PLPD portion.

hope that helps and eliminates all the misconceptions.

It will probably be around $1600-1700 a year for the most basic coverage for an S13, as that is what mine is.

^ For a new driver that's a bit cheap I think I was paying $1500 on my old Civic with just the very basic coverage and a clean driving record and 5 years experience.

I would guess $1800-$2000. New drivers are grid rated to protect them from insurance companies charging too much. Since you are grid rated, if you wanted minimum coverage the price would be the same no matter what vehicle you drive, and also no matter what company you decide to go with.

With that said I pay $146/month for my S13 with 2 years experience and no demerits/convictions/claims and $1 million basic coverage.

Its $2016 for my S13. 2 million liability, fire, theft, $500 deductable.

My first car was my s13, I pay 160 a month no deductible through TD moloche and monnex. My coverage does not cover collision as the car is too old.
Pricing also depends if you have a group rate under your parents.

Best thing is to ask your insurance company.
