It's new, lol. Newer technology, comforts, engines, flight deck.

It's pretty much the same as getting excited over a new Mercedes Black series, or what-have-you.

Interesting side note... the Airbus A380 employees more Americans than the 787

i love how Boeing always stays true to the traditional style control yoke, even a 100hr C-172 Maverick wannabe could probably fly it.

So Tik-Tok, when are they sending you on the endorsement course for this thing? :D

it wont load for me tho, it just keeps saying 'Please stand by' :(

edit: yeah BRAND new lol, as opposed to all the decrepit Vietnam war era stuff out there now hidden under those shiny brand new livery schemes.

Lots of advanced composite materials usage in the fuselage, which likely represents the future of aircraft construction. The other half of the hype is just how many times the thing has been delayed, over and over again.

-they used 50% carbon fiber for the body.
-the engines generate electricity for the plane
-controllable tinted shades instead of pull down shades
-mood lighting or LED lights in the whole plane so they can simulate the outside or company colors or whatever the hell.
-huge rows
-huge windows
-its new...

Can't wait till Air Canada gets it first few....btw engines always generated electricty for the plane...

What he's referring to is that there is no bleed air coming out of the engine (robbing power), to supply compressed air for pressurization, cross engine starts, air conditioning, anti-ice ducts, etc.

Instead it will do all that with with electric compressors, electric starters, etc.

It uses 2x 250kVA generators on EACH engine to power all this (as opposed to my airplane, that has 1 x 38 kVA per engine)

That's a serious amount of electricity.

Nice plane with a lot of innovative features.

However I dont want to be the FIRST one to experience a lightning strike though on it as FAA relaxed portions of the lightning certification standards for this aircraft and its composite skin.

As an aside, transport certified aircraft are, on average, struck once a year.

happens all the time...ive seen beech premier's struck by lightning with just chips in the paint..

I wonder how many of the interior will be like the concepts.

^^^^^^^^ the top concept there looks like some of those super-first class sections on A380's already o_O So I can see the top one being easily made production.

I can see the second pic, with slightly larger desks, as being a new business class.

The top pic is of the Air Canada first class interior. It is already in service in the other wide bodied aircraft they fly, well most of them. The 787 when it is delivered to Air Canada will likely come with the interior shown.

The 767-300 I flew in last year had the conversion. Pretty decent setup.

The only bad thing I can really bitch about is the bright blue LED lighting behind the seat controls -- they don't dim along with the cabin lights.
