If it's for girls, those soaps and lotions at bathroom body works or something aren't a bad deal. Girls love that kinda shit too. Same as La Senza victoria secret lotion stuff. Eye shadow (They always run out.) if you know what brand and what number they use. And if not, get them a MAC or the bay giftcard where they can get it themselves, Lip gloss, I'll stop here.

For a guy, if he smokes get him a nice lighter. Depending on what kind of phone they have, a phone case would cost about $20-$30. Superstore giftcard, movie passes with popcorn, one of those metal cases (also known as a wallet for some people, like me.) for credit cards, bank cards, etc., shoe shine kit, is he into car detailing= Meguirs clay bar kit, gas cards.

If it's just a Yankee Swap, the best gifts I've seen are as follows:

1. Pack of condoms, massive bag of M&Ms, and an iTunes card
2. A set of those plastic kiddie bowling pins/ball.
3. Anything NERF
4. R/C Helicopters (London Drugs has some for around $30)

I just had a $10 exchange. I bought five packs of Trident for two bucks each and threw in a go-mug that I got for free at work.

My wifes aunt got it, and she looked kind of stoked. Nobody stole for it though.

Also, Three people in my wife's family are getting the slap-chop this christmas. It's going to be awsome. I also bought one for myself.

If you don't know what to buy, just go to Lee Valley. they have piles of stuff that's both unusual and useful for small dollar amounts.
