Ticket Today...

So i was driving towards downtown to meet my mom and for a buddy to pay off a few tickets, after that last intersection after the cemetary a cop walks out in front of me and pulls me to the side right beside that kidney foundation building. 18 over the speed limit, 113$ :(
Will my insurance raise? demerits? Its my first ticket.

yes theres demeritts. i believe 3 for the speed you were going at. Insurance might be affected, but you can easily fight it to get demeritts removed....just do a search theres alot of topics on this.

it's 2 demerits for less than 20km over, and no your insurance doesn't get affected until at least 2 tickets

just fight it yourself... don't go to pointts for a $113 ticket. They'll charge you $200 to fight it and probably only be able to reduce it by a few bucks and no demerits. You can do the same by walking yourself down to talk to the CP or JP. btw, that area is a known speed trap, right in front of the casino.

Fight it to try and get the demerits removed. And depending on your insurance company, yes, they can raise your insurance from just 1 ticket. My friend, who has been driving for 3 years ticket-free, got a ticket the other day for 14 km/h over, his insurance jacked up his monthly rate by $165.

yea I really wanna fight it, i don't want my driving affected, its like the only thing I do.
So if I go myself to fight it I could get it reduced just as much as if i used points? or should I use points.

for a ticket that small, don't use points, the main reason here is what sml said. Use points when you get hit with a huge ticket, ie stunting, or speeding 128 in a 50 zone...stuff like that. for a ticket like yours, you can honestly fight it yourself...the best case situatuation is they're going to drop it to 10 over, and give you no demerits. alright, well i guess I'll think about it, and when the date comes (Dec.31/03) I'll take it to court and fight it.

I heard that there's a driver's safety course I can take it that will knock off 3 demerits. Does anyone know how much it costs to take and where I can take it? (such as AMA etc?)

I'm one ticket away from having my license suspended :( Hence I've been driving like a granny for the past 6 months.

Yea a buddy of mine is a real speeder, he's been getting tickets left, right and center. He took a safety course and it took off something like 3-5 demerits.
Most of my friends I know were given a break when they told the cop that it was there first ticket. I tried to show him respect, and he just asked me for my drivers, no registration, then he writes me a ticket, drops my drivers in mud, then hands it back to me, and walks away.

yeah they can be asses sometimes. it never hurts to fight it, they'll never raise the charges so what do you gotta lose right?

that corner is killer ... every FRIDAY theres always cops set up there ... it's not that hard to see from far, just as you turn, always spot that corner .. i drive by it everyday, so its automatic that i look at that corner everytime i turn in .. then just 2 lights after, theres a red light cam .. and that's killer too cause theres always heavy traffic heading to the downtown core, so you may get a green to go, but traffics backed up past so u still could get a camera shot for being stopped right in the middle .. lol too funny :)

That's why you're not supposed to enter an intersection if it's blocked, whether the light is green or not.
