In time. Right now the Chinese auto industry is all about putting parts from OEM manufacturers together. Without any IP laws to rein them in, it's simply not profitable to go out to do you own R&D.

Look back a decade ago or so, no one even considered buying a Korean car, now look at them. Same with Japanese cars many decades ago, just give it time.
