I lost a power adapter for a MIDI controller I use for DJing. It's specs are 12V-2A DC. Can I find something like this in say walmart or anywhere like that? Also is it ok to use an adapter that's a little bit different or will that fry things?

over voltage is bad, over amperage is fine.

a really low level explanation is:

volts are "pushed" to the device, the adapter will push all available voltage

amps are "pulled" by the device, the device will only pull what is required.

so your adapter MUSt be 12v, but can be anything over the required amps.

Be sure to check the polarity as well. Some power supply cords have the center positive, others negative.

if you have an old computer power supply you can use it, short the ground to one of the pins to turn it on, see diagrams) you some PSU are like 20 or more amps @12v
