I had a pretty aggressive NYE and ended up crushing my 8830 world edition blackberry. I think I may just upgrade to an Iphone as buying them out of contract are outrageous (I want a world phone for telus).

Anywho, I figure I can repair and sell this one. The phone works but the screen is cracked and white. Telus tells me blackberry wont fix physical damage and they will likely charge me an arm and leg for a new one.

Telus is also willing to give me $300 off any iphone or $200 of BB.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I found these guys....looks decently priced. $89 USD for screen fix

Yah I'm not sure but it seems there is more broken than the screen on the outside..it's white and blue/red in one spot. There may be something else behind the screen that is broken there (chip / wire / board or something)

I'm getting a $300 birthday subsidy for new phone too :D

I'll tell you what broski, I've got a old telus 8830, you can have it for $20. Screen is fine, and the cover over the screen has a protector on it. Battery is gone, same with trackpad, also has microphone issues, its a parts phone lulz

Forgot, there is some dust trapped between the shell and the screen, but when you repair it will be fine, the shell over the screen is mint, just peeled off the old invisible shield. Rest of phone is scratched, keys are worn. Also USB port is loose so it doesn't charge properly

Just check out CrackBerry - there is undoubtedly someone who has already gone through the trouble of replacing their LCD and will have a basic guide to dismantling the 8800-Series.

Hell, you can get YouTube tutorials of dismantling the Bold 9700.

I can replace it for you if you get all the parts. I have the tools that is required. The down side is that I am not back into Calgary until the 8th of Jan.

It's easy to replace the screen yourself.

You can get a screen here:

http://cnn.cn/shop/blackberry-880088208830-screen-p-2025.html

and there is also a video link to disassemble the phone.

I disassembled my 9000 because I wanted to change out the silver bezel with a black one and in order to do so I had to remove the screen completely. Mine was just held on by double sided tape.
