Just saw this movie last Friday.

INSOMNIA (drama/thriller)

Al Pacino
Robin Williams
Hillary Swank

Director: Christopher Nolan (Memento - one of the most under rated movies of 2001)

SYNOPSIS
Sent to a small Alaska town to investigate the murder of a teenage girl, a veteran police officer (Al Pacino) is forced into a game of psychological cat-and-mouse by a primary suspect (Robin Williams) after his partner is killed.

MY TAKE ON THIS MOVIE:
This is a good solid psychological thriller. It is not as intense as Kiss the Girls, Se7en, or Silence of the Lambs but it is a different type of movie because while those other movies border on thriller/horror, this movie is much more drama oriented. The characters are more real life with real life problems and issues. The villain is not 'special' and cannot vanish at will like in so many other movies. This movie also raises some ethical issues that gives the characters more depth and it is also a major plot point. Does the end justify the means?

YOU will like this Movie if you like the following movies:
Sling Blade
Fargo
A Simple Plan
Sea of Love
Memento

You will HATE this movie if:
you have Never heard of any of the movies that I just listed above.
you have a SHORT attention span.
you ONLY like movies that have fast MTV music video cuts.
you are expecting gratuitous violence and nudity.
you prefer movies with space ships, aliens, and cool battle scenes.
you need an ACTION scene in every 10 mins to keep you from falling asleep.

Pretty good story, but coulda been quicker paced up the the middle. Kinda reminds me of the movie "Kiss the Girls", only much better.
