With rogers you can get the 50$ plan which gives you

200 weekday mins
unlim evenings and weekends
500 mb of data

you get to choose 1 of the following:
my 5 canada wide - unlimited talk, text, picture msg etc. to these 5 numbers
unlimited text messaging
double your minutes
free rogers to rogers & rogers to fido local calling

then to add call display name display and voicemail it'll be 12$

so your looking at 62$ + 2.58 gov fee + tax
around 70$ a month

Too bump a thread back from the dead:

My contract with Telus expires soon. I have a grandfathered plan which is bitchin, but won't be very suitable for me once I am out of school.

I want an Iphone (surprise). About 200 local calling minutes per month should be fine, along with the usual 500mb data plan that goes with it. I need a good long distance plan as well though, at LEAST 100mins per month.

Currently Fido seems to be able to get me this for under $100/month with everything (unlimited text, caller id, etc). More like ~$85/month. Can I do better?

Obviously, I will contact Telus' retention department, but I am not going to hold my breathe. I would like to stick with Telus though, as they tend to have better cell reception in the places I travel to. If I could get the 200 local, unlimited text, 500mb, and 100+ long distance minutes per month for $65 all in, I'd be ecstatic.

Any ideas on what to do to get a better phone plan? I'd like to add some data to mine without getting ass raped. My plan expires this september.

Current plan with Bell:

$16.30/month plus $9.70 SAF and GST = ~$26/month

-250 minutes (can be used for both local/long distance)
-Unlimited evenings & weekends from 6pm-7am.
-Unlimited Text
-Caller ID/Voicemail

It's a decent plan, but I'd like to add some data and then get an iPhone. Wondering what's the best way of doing this.

I also wouldn't mind trading phone plans with someone who has a good data/voice plan already. Not looking to get a plan over $40/month tho.

If you guys want the plan, PM Jynx.
He was the one that hooked me up with it. Not sure if he still offers it but message him just in case he does.

On a side note,
How far does 500mb get you data plan users?
How much data would be used up from visiting a 'moderate ad' site like kijiji or checking my gmail?

^^ what phone do you have?

I have 6GB on my iPhone and NEVER get past 1GB. But 6GB is $30.00 a month and 1GB is $25.00 so I refuse to go down. Friend of mine has an iPhone with 500mb, he went over 1 month but is usually fine. He does hijack peoples wifi when he goes to their houses though, I dont care. I am on beyond quite a bit on my phone, stream online radio probably an hour a day, have 4 email accounts, and lots of web surfing. Also this includes updating and downloading apps and buying the odd song.

If you have a BB the compression on those (and how much you download, i.e. no apps, movies, songs, etc) allows you to use the 500mb plan as if it was unlimited.

BTW those data numbers are with Rogers.

Anyone at Bell, Rogers or Fido able to help me get a good plan?

I called bell, they said they could add +100 minutes to my current plan, for renewing (on corp plan now). Or I could switch to a share plan for my two lines.

300 mins each
unlim weekends nights @6pm
unlmited text
cd, vm, 3 way blah blah
unlimited mms/video messaging
100 Long distance minutes
free calling between the two lines
per minute billing
unlimited data
$120 + taxes (not certain on saf)

Or I could switch to 500mb data (each) and the plan would be $90 a month. (don't really want to give up my unlimited)

I'm not too excited by that, I pay about $104 a month right now including unlimited data, 250 minutes, unlim text, cd, vm, cw, $0.08 LD, same plan each phone.

I don`t know if this really applies, but for anyone whose contract is up for renewal or on a month to month basis, why don`t you try speaking to customer relations (retentions)?

I spoke with fido last week since I`ve been off contract since March 2010 and he offered me a few options:

$17.50
200 Daytime Minutes (per second)
Unlimited Evening and Weekends (7pm-8am)
+ $10 Value pack (caller ID, voicemail, 2500 SMS)
- $10 Credit (for duration of agreement)
= $17.50 + tax

Perfect for lower end users.

Current plan (NO CONTRACT)
$25
200 Daytime Minutes
Unlimited Evenings and Weekends (7pm-8am)
Unlimited Fido to Fido
Caller ID, Voicemail, 2500 SMS
- $10 Credit (for one year)
+ $30 1GB Data (off contract)
- $10 Credit (for one year)
= $35 + tax

To those who are signing, just be careful with the data contract too (data ECF was bumped up to $200 :thumbsdow ). I asked to see if he could give any credit for $30/6GB data but he said there was NO flexibility on that AT ALL. He did however, suggest that if I wanted credit on data, I could just get $10 off the 1GB data plan since its not a promotional offer.

Just renewed and HUP'ed yesterday to the iPhone 4, and got an updated plan. Pretty happy with it (basically alot more data and double my daytime minutes...gonna call back in a couple months to try and get another $5 off and that would be perfect!):

400 daytime minutes
Unlimited eve/wken (@6pm)
1GB data
Unlimited messaging
CID, VM, etc.

$50 + $7 + $12 + $5 = $74
- $7 early evenings credit (3 year)
- $5 plan credit (3 year)
- $5 data credit (3 year)
= $57/month ($62/after GRRF and GST)

Compared to my old plan:

200 daytime
unlim eve/wken (@6pm)
150MB data
2500 texts
CID, VM
$17.50 + $15 + $10 = $42.50
- $5 plan credit
= $37.50/month ($47.19/after SAF, 911, and GST)

*Keep in mind, both plans were through retentions.

Ironcally I was just 1yr into my 3GS contract, when I upgraded to the iphone4 at apple.

I just called Rogers the following day and asked to change my plan. (I asked for the EPP employee purchase plan) and the rest fell into place. I never even talked to retentions.

I'm with telus, just recently contracted (3 years) for an iPhone 3GS. My plan is very similiar to yours, but I have 200 long distance minutes, as well as unlimited nationwide calling to 10 numbers of my choice (which I can change once a month). $83.33/month all in.

bigbadboss101

I have been with Telus for over 10 years and right now I have the following:

Insider plan $17.3
Smartphone bundle 30 $30
Loyalty Cdn 200 min $0

So tax in it comes out to $57 or so.

I am looking to go to an Android phone or Iphone4. The minutes in the insider plan is enough so if they can put me on the same plan, and change to the 6G plan for $30 that would be great. The LD is nice to have but I don't use that much. What else should I bargain for? Doesn't look like I am paying for text msg.

Have a feeling they are going to take back the insider plan or the 200 min LD. The thing is I have 15 months left on the 3 year contract. Ideally they will give me the plan I want and I stay with Telus and go with either the Iphone or the Galaxy S, not the Apollo. Otherwise I would stay put with the Storm until contact end, or pay to port to Rogers or Bell.

Shaw is rumored to be launching a 4G LTE based wireless service sometime in late fall to winter of 2011. I don't doubt they will be launching in about a years time. I've heard they have already started securing tower sites and building towers.

bigbadboss101

The reason I ask is I have been with Telus for 10 years or so. No issue with them except they seem to have the less interesting phones, and now the rates are not as low as others. I have 16 months left on my plan with is not bad, but can be better.

I phoned them the other day asking about the HTC Desire or Iphone4 and they said I have to pay $170 to get out of my contract, and also they will take back my plan now. With the new offer I would be paying $10/month more, and without the 200LD minutes. With that I am contemplating other carriers but might wait for SHAW. My BB Storm does the trick but the new phones are nice to have.

Friend of mine is actually on the Shaw wireless project. Didn't ask her many questions but it would be worth switching if they provide good coverage, and rate plans. People seem to like Shaw's customer service although I haven't have to call them in 10 years. Today I will be calling them to discuss my internet/phone/cable and try to work out a better package.
