In my condo storage closet, I have a nice student desk, DELL PC, and a conventional CRT monitor.

They're free, if you come get them, as a package.

People are selling used 17 inch lcd's for 40-50 bucks all day long

Not sure what your price point is but Tiger Direct has 18.5" widescreen monitors for $99, and 23" widescreens for $179 if you are just looking for something decent.
