I am in the process of buying a 2001 type r integra with 92000km on it. It has records of all the oil changes and all the maintenance done on it since new. My question is it still blows some smoke under load mostly at v-tec. This will be the second one i have had and one of the main reasons i sold my first one was it had over 200k on it and it blew a ton of smoke so i assumed it needed a rebuild. Is it common for these cars to have some smoke under load.. i know they are very high compression. The car is going in for a full inspection tomorrow including a compression test. If it all comes back fine should the car be alright.. Anyways guys let me know what your thoughts are on it.

The compression test should be coupled with a leakdown test, it will give you a better idea of how things are.

Now that original b series engines are typically 10 years + in age, most show signs of age and wear, this is very normal. Burning oil in vtec is common with these engines.

Between having a high compression, high revving 4 cyl engine, the pistons rings do wear after time, as do the valve seals (which also dry out and harden).....using oil, or even seeing it under load is common.

All ITR's I've seen in the last year blow out smoke. Seen at least 3 different ones on the track last year.

New rings and a hone might fix things to some extent. Maybe thicker oil?
