View Full Version : Theft and Vandalism in Kensington

Ok...I don't think there's much that can be done here, so more than anything this is a rant I guess....about how fucked up this city is getting day by day!

So today everyone was out at a restaurant in Kensington called Muse. My dad parked his brand new X5 at the Impark parking lot that's opposite to it. After getting back he noticed the car alarm was blaring non-stop and the back passenger window had been repeatedly smashed with a brick and completely shattered. Seemed like someone kept throwing it at the window over and over again since it probably wouldn't break easily.

My dad's office bag was at the bottom of the back side which is obviously missing. It had about 2k cash and about 4-5k in cheques that had to be deposited. Obviously the cash is gone and though they are not going to be able to cash the cheques, it's going to be a big pain in the ass (if possible) for my dad to try and trace them all, since some of them were from different lawyers offices, chiropractors, wcb etc etc All his clinic keys were also in there. There was also his pda in there a voice recorder and tons of other important work papers. Funny thing is that my dad almost NEVER puts cash in that bag and he did today to take it to the bank.

Haven't even properly looked at the truck to see if there's any other damage inflicted to it from the brick that was being thrown at it. All in all, the loss is of about 7k including the costs of repairing the truck and what not.

I am just so fucking annoyed at the people in this fucking city that it's not even funny. Last month all my gf's shit got stolen from her car and now this. Honestly these lowlife's need to be caught and dealt with. Whatever it fucking takes, even if it's cctv in every mother fucking corner! Works fine in the UK, can be done here too. :banghead: :banghead:

Doesn't that Impark have some cameras?

Man, I'm always afraid of that day when I come up to my car to see a window smashed or a door jimmied open!

But that total sucks, too many crackheads on Kensington willing to fuck people over to get whatever they can!

I am not sure about the camera's since only my dad had parked in there. But he spoke to the cops and stuff so let's see what happens. Though from all the precedent we already know that nothing's going to come out of it.

Do you think insurance will cover that kind of loss? My friend had his prelude broken into and his insurance covered the new laptop he had in there...but I guess money/checks are different than laptops.

I always used to park there when I ate in Kensington but now it seems safer to park on the street where there's a lot of human traffic!

I never went to the dinner tonight since I was studying for my exam tom. But my brother went and he parked at the street. MUCH safer there since people walking about and cars and what not. It's just my dad trying to be 'safe' parking at a proper place.

He will probably have to check with his insurance, I am not sure if they cover these kinda things, he'll probably know better if he talks to them.

It's so bloody annoying, almost feels like I got personally violated! And I should be studying for my exam tom, last kind of distraction I needed.:banghead:

I would feel violated too. No one should touch another person's ride let alone steal from it. Let karma do it's work and the guy/girl will get what's coming to them.

Just take a breather and hit the books again. Goodluck on your exam!

That parkade has to have a camera system.

Get in contact with them and see what they could do for you. I highly doubt the person covered his/her face during this.

And did anyone follow your dad out and know what he was carrying with him in the bag?

that is absolute bullshit. i would think they have cameras in that parking lot. did your dad or brother check?

$2000 is a complete transformation in terms of quality of life for a crackhead.

I am not sure if they checked for the camera since they came home and just went to bed without talking much. Will probably talk about the details tom. No one could have followed him cause he put the bag in his truck from his clinic in NE and then parked in Kensington before going in the restaurant.

The best part is the dinner was for my brothers second wedding anniversary.:banghead:

That sucks man, what a pain in the butt.

However, perhaps others can take heed from this (I lived in crack central Vancouver) :

... if you want it stolen from your vehicle ... leave it visible.

So how is one suppose to know what places are safe for my all so special 3 series? I am not so lucky to have a girlfriend that owns a 98 corolla that I can use.

That makes you the prime suspect. Knowledge of the cash, opportunity, and motive. Maybe you needed the cash to pay off someone to remove that google ads homo thread. (I've been watching too much TV lately).

But seriously. Sorry about your dad's loss. I hope insurance covers it.

Except these fucks probably don't even own a vehicle.
I try to park all my cars where people walk by. I'd rather have everyone seeing the car than trying to hide it somewhere in a lot.

You put too much thought into it, bud. Cost to fix = toyota < bmw

Well if you are spending time in the NW or SW you're pretty much taking your life in your hands as it is.

Sorry to hear...
That really sucks!

Just like what that dude said, I'm always nervous parking in weird areas....

I've actually left my vehicle overnight in complete ghettos and not had a problem, yet I've seen people looking into my car (when returning to it after parking) in nice areas...

I always try to park in indoor parkades, if not I'll leave it on the street.

One thing I've always made sure I do is leave absolutely NOTHING in the vehicle. Occasionally I'll have a peice of paper or something, I always leave it on the front seat where it is visable, I'm sure noone wants to steal paper...

While I do feel for you and your father, you gotta admit - leaving that kind of cash and sensitive material in the truck is a pretty dumbass thing to do.

Hope they catch the bitches.

It only takes once. I would think since the car was a brand new BMW the thieves probably thought there was a good chance of finding some goodies in there and they were right, especially if they saw the bag....

I'm sorry, but if the cheques, cash, and paperwork were that valuable your father should of taken them in the restaurant with him. Its almost a given the one time you leave it in your car it will be stolen....

I dont' think insurance will cover the lost cash....

I have empathy for you and your father right now. I'm really losing faith on people or is it my run of bad luck lately? The X5 M is only about 2 months old. Getting set up with a paint specialist, then probably going to spy design to wrap the car like Rage2.

This was definitely motivated by theft and not just vandalism. So saw the truck in light today and as the brick flew through the window, it hit the inside of the other side door as well where the leather/wooden trim and all that is ruined. Spoke to the insurance and his is $250 deductible for theft, so that's not too bad.

About the belongings in the truck, apparently the house insurance covers that, so going to call them next. But yea I guess it's just shitty luck. The iphone charger, an extra wallet with little money my dad has for emergencies, sunglasses, everything gone. It's funny like I mentioned before my dad never puts cash in that bag and yesterday he went out of his way to add $200 from his wallet on the $1800 he had lying in the office to make it even $2000. lol It's like the fucking junky was meant to hit the bloody lottery! Funny how things turn out sometimes.

Oh and apparently the cops said there are no cameras in any of impark parking lots?:dunno: Not in that one anyway.

That sucks - hope you get some resolution from insurance.

I still don't think the insurance will cover the cash...house insurance or the car insurance just the small stuff like a brief case, cell phone, etc....

My cell phone = 500 USD, a briefcase can easily go over 1,000 USD. SO who knows.

Some home insurance policies do cover cash.
