Watch out for this guy (Alexander Georgiev), he has some tires on Kijiji. probably picks them out of the garbage pile behind some shop. I was going to buy the Good years off him, his ad says 75%. I confirmed with him twice before heading down there and they only have 30-40% left on them. He trie argueing with me that they have 75% left then he finally says they are garbage and he made a mistake in his ad. The BF Goodriches he has posted with 80% have more like 50-60%. What a time waster, made me drive all the way down from the NE to McKenzie Town. What a fucking loser, do not deal with him.

This type of guy is the reason why we have started to slash open or stab the sidewalls of tires we throw out that somebody may be tempted to take and resell. When you come to work in the morning and you cage has been pilferred through and shit is everywhere it is frustrating. Also, if we are throwing them out, frequently there is a reason not visable to the naked eye, especially when the tire is not inflated, such as tread seperation, ran flat, casing leaks etc...

By rendering unrepairable before they go in the trash, the tire pile divers stop coming around once they realise all their work is wasted!

I hate when people advertise or talk % without actually measuring and comparing to new. Tread depth gauges are only $3.00.

What do you slash them with? I've put some tyres outside that look brand new from M3's and M5's and I really dont want any poor bastard to pay some idiot 400$ for them.

It sounds lazy but I dont want to slash every tyre with a power tool, and I dont really have any sharp knives I want to keep at work.

I've just been using drill bits, quick and simple.

If you want to make it obvious to the dumpster diver, circle where you've drilled with a neon marker or a smily face. :) (with 2 eye balls where you've drilled, etc...)

I dunno.. Doesn't buying used tires seem ghetto to anyone else? To me that's like getting used brake pads

Well no, cuz sometimes you have a vehicle that's only 1-3 years old and the car's got into an accident, the tires are still useable; key word useable, not great (like under 40,000k)

Or you get someone who bought a set of new tires (4), and then blew out 1... but then the freakin' tire manufacturer has discounted that model, and the owner wants to replace all 4. (even if they replace 2, that'll still leave 1 good odd one out)

But in those cases, the tire shop usually has a list of clients to call to offer good condition used tires.

IMO, not odd at all... But in relationship to this post, its the way how some scavangers try to turn a buck. (we're assuming the seller in question goes to tire shops and picks out from their dumpster bin)

Or he could very well own a tire shop, who the fuck knows.

Kijiji should really implement a user trading system for feedbacks and such. Just so that people are more aware of who the hell they are buying from or selling to.:dunno:

I've bought "used" tires before that still had the rubber whiskers on them. It only matters how old they are (date of manufacturing) and how many miles are on them.

I worked at a ford dealership during their massive tire recall... Fuck, I think I slashed about 100 tires one day...:nut:

I got scammed by a fatter, older guy off kijiji. I believe his phone number is something like 403 285 or 281...He drives an old station wagon with aftermarket chrome wheels on it.

He gave me four tires, i inspected them, couldnt see anything. Had two mounted which were flat in a week while my truck sat there.

Turns out all four tires had been "slashed" on the sidewall, with the cut being no wider than a penny-width. Cuts were glued together and I got HAD for $285 + mounting for 2 tires.

I had thoughts of vigilante justice somehow but decided against it.

First time I bought a set of used wheels with tires, I had no issues, figured i'd do it again but now i've learned.

The michelin factorys back east, slash any bad tires... They usually give them to farmers or something to use as weights to hold down tarps and whatnot..

Guy I know had a stack of nice 20" tires (but bad tires for one reason or another), someone came it to his yard one night and grabbed them all.. They were probably pretty pissed when they found the huge gashes in the sidewall that michelin makes sure is noticeable..

Oh man... Kijiji scammers... I could go on all day... Think buying tires off that site is bad? Try advertising a service.... Kijiji=waste of time across the board... from my experiences anyways... Plus, when you look on a Kijiji ad, click on the "view poster's other ads" tab, and often you'll get dozens of ads for various merch, and lo and behold the same guy advertising a junk removal service... Red flags right there.

Heck no. For example, I'm currently looking for a cheap used set of A/T's for my ZJ. Why? Well, I'm planning on lifting the Jeep in the summer to run some larger (31" or 32") tires that won't fit on it as it is now. However, I'd like to do some light wheeling in the meantime and my current tires just aren't up to the task. Hence, buying a cheap set of used AT's in 235/75R15 to use for a few months makes way more sense than to pay top dollar for new ones that I'm only going to be using for that short space of time.

So, no it's not like buying used brake pads. Sometimes it just makes sense.

LOL... I bought a pair of tires off that guy back in the summer of 2002... for my old Ford Escort GT... they were actually a decent pair and cheap to boot, so no issues for me.

I have to laugh though... it's obviously his money maker... sellin' old tires... haha.
