Just wondering if anyone else just had that power outage?

It was down for atleast 30 minutes, possibly a whole hour?

My work was out, along with the rest of the industrial park by Deerfoot Inn. Was out for about an hour.

Anyone know what happened?

I wasnt poking at your inability to drive, I was poking fun at the fact that I was listening to the radio.

Heard on the radio (AM radio even) that Enmax was blaming this outage on the fog - probably due to a build-up of frost and dirt on the lines some where.

If its the same substation (Deerfoot and Anderson) problems Enmax used to have when I was working there, its the location of the sub thats the problem - being right next to a body of water (river) which produces moisture, which freezes to the insulators - which causes power outages.

Well that's pretty brilliant!

how do insulators freeze? they're made of porcelain/glass or are synthetic.

if they're dirty, the moisture in the air may cause flashover

correct, the siting missed that in the design.

Not sure if that is the problem here but on foggy days like this, ones that cause calf robe/deerfoot bridge to freeze over, the insulators and seperation are shorted from the moisture in the air.

Fack, I didnt realize it was a planning FUBAR - although I guess this would be self evident as the feeder lines that go over the river into Diamond Cove collapsed in 2005 because the poles were placed too close to the river.

The new poles are also (surprise) too close to the new shore.

Was this 26 or 32 sub? I used to get them mixed up all the time.
