Hey everybody,

Out family bought a mini van for misc dirty jobs, and I was wondering which insurance company you would recommend for the absolutely cheapest rates, all I need is liability so it is legal to drive on the road, no comprehensive or anything like that (keep in mind the van is only worth about $200)

any input will be appreciated!

The big banks blew away my broker and their rapage.

Went from 275 (No collision, nothing) to 300 a month with full everything.(RBC)

So I'd say give RBC a call.

I pay something like $46 a month to state farm, my neon is a 2nd vehicle, liability insurance only. I'm only 24, too.

I pay $202/mo for a '08 Carolla Sport, full coverage, $500 deductables. That's with TD. RBC quoted me a little less ($189/mo), but it wasn't worth switching.

Don't do C.J. Campbell Insurance.
I'm on as occasional driver for an 07 Camry with full coverage for $1,200/a.

Why wouldn't you just put it where you have the rest of your vehicles insured? That should give you the best price by triggering multi-vehicle discounts and such.

Ditto, State Farm is where it's at. I pay 226$ a moth for BOTH my trucks, full coverage and commercial. And they are actually easy to deal with too.

RBC should be a good choice, but not for me :(

Intact Insurance (formerly ING) is a big pain in my ass. One mess up and everything goes wonky with these guys. nothing ever goes smooth. But they are the only guys willing to insure me for a reasonable amount of coin...

2009 Mazda 3. $6200/year with Intact Full coverage, minus glass and a $500 deductible.

RBC wanted $6800. Full coverage, minus glass and a $500 deductible.

Either way, shop around. There are enough companies out there.

How the hell can RBC want $6800 for a lil' 4-banger? My Dodge, fully insured is costing me 1600$ a year. Then again, I'm 34 but still...

WTF??? Dude RBC, any big bank = RAPE

That's insane, I was paying $3600 a year with full coverage on the SRT-4 when I first got it and still had an accident on my record.

How can people say ING (intact) is cheap. for me, it was the other way round. RBC beat Intact by a ton!

Read my quote from above. lol

The following is information according to my broker. Whether this statement is true or not has yet to be confirmed.

Intact (ING) is a high-risk insurance company. Meaning, that they will take on clients that most other companies would turn down. So if you are high risk, RBC will quote you an outrageous rate to deter you from signing with them. Intact has a different rate calculator that has a more steady of an increase in rate categories, but doesn't have huge savings for the safe drivers.

Holy shit man.

RBC wanted something like 5500+ for an IS300 for me. And I'm 18.

Car insurance is such a rip off.

$35/month is doing pretty good, our winter beater (2000 neon) is insured with TD Meloche Monnex right now, $44/month including comprehensive (for $4/month I figured it was worth it) and accident forgiveness ($50/year regardless of number of cars).

Oh ya...

The worst / best (depends which side of the desk you're on) I've come across was a little over $11,000 for PLPD. And the kid paid it! He got a second job just to pay his auto insurance.

We used to have an older gentleman on the book, came to about $10,000 a month, full coverage.

Correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't auto insurance through the roof about 8 years ago? I remember being a first-time driver with PL/PD being upwards of $400 - $500 per month. I think it is a bit more reasonable now...

You're right, prior to the indroduction of the GRID system (October 2004) the rates for new drivers were pretty bad. This guy I'm talking about had only been driving a year or two, had a couple accidents and either 9 or 10 tickets. The interesting thing was that he wasn't bitter about the price at all. He knew he drove like a jerk and this was the result.

$120,000 per year????

Or was it the $10,000 per year? Commercial or personal lines?
