Gonna be tired tmr morning... After 1 hour of running, McLaren's on top.

1:14.359 Paffett - McLaren
1:14.898 De la Rosa - Sauber
1:16.602 Kubica - Renault
1:17.004 Barrichello - Williams
1:26.395 Buemi - Toro Rosso
1:32.873 Massa - Ferrari
1:57.211 Rosberg - Mercedes

In Massa and Rosberg's defense, I don't think they've done a proper hot lap yet.

Michael Schumacher is expected to be running the afternoon session starting at 5:30am Calgary time. Time for a nap!

And final times for today. It's only day 1, at least McLaren is not 3 or 4 seconds off the pace like last year! LOL

1. F. Massa Ferrari F10 1:12.574 102 pit
2. P. de la Rosa BMW Sauber C25 1:12.784 +0.210 74 pit
3. M. Schumacher Mercedes GP W01 1:12.947 +0.373 40 pit
4. N. Rosberg Mercedes GP W01 1:13.543 +0.969 39 pit
5. G. Paffett McLaren MP4-25 1:13.846 +1.272 86 pit
6. R. Barrichello Williams FW32 1:14.449 +1.875 75 pit
7. S. Buemi Toro Rosso STR5 1:14.762 +2.188 18 pit
8. R. Kubica Renault R30 1:15.000 +2.426 69 pit

With this year's no refuelling rule change, testing is going to be all over the map as teams test various fuel loads to gauge how the car reacts to different weights.

Considering McLaren is the only one using a test driver I'd say they did pretty effing well.

^ Does you know if any teams tried a low fuel lap today? I assume most teams were trying to validdate their weight transfer calcs on nearly full tanks. I saw that merc had strain gauges on their a-arms and push rods but I couldn't see anyone else running them today...:dunno:

Man ferrari's garage must've been running a tight ship to finish that many laps. I wonder why no one else seemed to take the testing seriously haha. I know some teams like STR had mechanical issues but I was hoping for McLaren to do a bit better with their testing plan.

de la Rosa hasn't been much more than a test driver for the last 3 years.. :dunno:

Well, looking at the standings. The 3 Big Teams (Ferrari, Mclaren, and Mercedes [Brawn]) ran the most laps out of that whole group. Ferrari may have been giving Massa more time in the car as well to get him "back in the groove" sorta. That's just a guess.. haha probably a bad one!

CFD and windtunnels are still only simulations, and Flo-vis is just another tool to validate those simulations with real world conditions. McLaren might have found that they valued the information they got from Flo-vis last year and are making it a standard part of their test program

McLaren's diffuser is said to be the most complex of the cars that's been shown thus far. As you can see in the flo-vis, it incorporates the lower rear wing as part of the diffuser, creating a massive exit.

This is what some of the teams are complaining about, using even MORE than the crash structure (last year's loophole) as a diffuser.

McLaren looked good today. Killed everyone (minus Sauber) on long stints. Ran 30 laps (1/2 distance) clocking low 1:12's to low 1:13's, with his fastest lap set at the end of the stunt. Some of the guys were running 1:15's for long stints.

Sauber is looking good too. Kobayashi's pretty damn fast.

Day 3... uh oh!

Alonso is freakin' fast. I know it's only testing, no clue how much fuel they're running and different days, but a long stint run by Alonso saw him consistently in the high 1:11's low 1:12's, and a fastest lap 0.3s clear of Massa.

Ferrari is looking good so far.

Go Alonso !!

This rear wing is pretty neat, and a new front wing too.
I have noticed most of the cars have a center support on their rear wings this year.

I'm more surprised by the number of laps Ferrari have been able to squeeze in everyday compared to others teams, than I am about their times.

They averaged about 40 laps more in the final day of testing last week. :nut:

If I was to make a guess, Ferrari is testing the durability of their modified engine/fuels for 2010, so they want to get in as many laps as possible. They had to make a lot of changes to improve fuel economy, as their car was one of the worst gas guzzlers last year.

Pretty sure this has been photoshopped... I found a pic on formula1.com, exact same angle, exact same reflections in the mirror, but the rear end is COMPLETELY different.. haha.. :nut: Unfortunately f1.com doesn't let you link pics..
