Found this recipe yesterday and just happened to have all of the ingredients at home and a couple of dinner guests on their way, so I popped it into the oven.

WOW.

Easiest dessert EVAR! And it is so amazingly good (just ask D'zNutz and BerserkerCatSplat!) It takes about 5 minutes from start to oven, then bake it for 45 mins or so and voila! Smells amazing too when it's baking :)

Peach Crumble Cake (http://www.bakerella.com/ridiculously-easy/)

This suggests peaches (which is what I used) but you can do it with any canned fruit...pears, fruit cocktail, pineapple, etc.

Would expired delmonte fruit cups work in lieu of actual canned fruit?

So by yellow cake mix they mean just a bag of that instant cake mix stuff?

Yep, a duncan hines box mix of golden yellow cake. Dump it on top of the fruit (just open the bag and pour) top with the butter squares (Tip: grocery stores sell sicks of butter, in the 1/2 cup measurement which makes it SUPER easy to do) then brown sugar and nuts, and voila!

Good luck masoncgy! Let me know how it goes!

Anyone mind posting the ingredients/directions?
This site/category is blocked at work :(

I googled peach crumble cakes, and they're a lot different than what I remember when I looked at the site at home.

Peach Crunch Cake

24.5 oz jar of sliced peaches in light syrup
1 package yellow cake mix
1 stick butter (1/2 cup), cut into 16 pieces
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Layer ingredients in a 13 X 9 dish, in order starting with the peaches.
Bake for about 40 minutes.
Serve warm or cold… with or without ice cream.

The website has a bunch of pictures in step-by-step detail as well.

I have a habit of free styling my measurements, so mine ended up a bit too sweet. The girlfriend loved it though.

Come to think of it, everything other than the walnuts & butter has a lot of (or is) sugar. The Vanilla icecream topping didn't help :)

Thanks for the recipe.

This was pretty good but I didn't measure the brown sugar exactly and thought, "well more is better," so it ended up a bit sweet but still good.

Next time, I'll tone down the brown sugar, lol.

Interesting, I had no idea a cake mix could be used in this way. I'll have to try this later.

I thought I overcooked the top a bit as it was more "brown" than the pics but aside from that everyone enjoyed it. Thanks for the recipe.

Did it for Valentine's day... turned out alright!

It's a bit too sweet as has been mentioned before. Serving this with ice cream takes care of the sweetness problem.

Anyone tried it with cutting back on the sugar to maybe just a sprinkling rather than half a cup?

That's what I'll do, I think - don't like toooo sickly sweet.

Wrinkly
02-24-2010, 05:37 PM
...guess not lol

It's in the oven right now! About 15 mins to go.

Changes I made were 28oz jar of peaches (didn't have 24oz).
Reduced the brown sugar to 1/4 cup
Substituted pecans for the walnuts (I have walnuts but I thought pecans would be better suited).

Well - here's the finished article:

http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx342/Wrinkly_photos/Stuff/PeachCrunchCake.jpg?t=1267056974

Doesn't look like that now :D

Glad I reduced the sugar. Even at a third of what the recipe calls for, it's still very sweet. Very good though - definitely on the "make it again" list

I think next time I'll try it with fruit in juice not syrup - that will reduce the sweetness a little further.

Oh wow. That looks yummy! I don't have a girl but I'll try to make it for my boyfriend. I'm sure he'll love it. He's not much of a sweets guy but he loves food! :)

Made it last Thursday.
DEFINITELY reduce the sugar, 1 cup was way too sweet. I also found that having the walnuts chopped doesn't leave too much of texture.

For sure going to use whole walnuts or chopped in half walnuts next time!

I think you could completely eliminate the sugar and still be sweet enough. I will next time I try it.

Just finished making/eating the cake. This is a great recipe, so delicious and so so simple. Thanks Melinda!
I couldn't find just yellow cake mix so I got the vanilla one. I used 1/3 cup of brown sugar.

Just before I popped it in the oven..
http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/716/dsc02646ki.th.jpg (http://img46.imageshack.us/i/dsc02646ki.jpg/)

Fresh out of the oven..
http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/8557/dsc02652k.th.jpg (http://img696.imageshack.us/i/dsc02652k.jpg/)

It didn't turn out as crunchy as I would've liked, more gooey, even though I left it in the oven for over an hour. I think the amount of sugar I used was perfect, even with icecream on top. It was sweet, but that's how dessert's supposed to be. The prep process took me about 15 mins.

I've never baked anything before on my own, and I don't know why I did today. My girl was definitely really surprised

Glad it was enjoyed! I found increading the crunch factor was done by adding more chopped nuts on top. Works really well for me.

Edit: What size pan is that? It looks a little squarish. That might be why you lost some crunch. If the photo angle is a little off and it is actually a 9x13 then disregard this entirely :D
