We seem to average an outage or two every month. Anyone know what the deal is? Currently posting from laptop + iPhone :(

Has this been happening for a while in Kincora?

I live in Coventry, and my brother was telling me last sunday (or last last sunday, can't really remember), and the power was out at night for about an hour and a half. Then today I was in Edgemont and the power went out there twice in the span of a few hours. Maybe something wrong with the city recently?

There has been power spikes in the NW for the past 1.5 months. A buddy of mine has been tracking it. 2x brown out in varsity in the last 1 month. Deep nw seems to be similarly affected. seemingly no reason or rhyme. I might call enmax on tuesday.

Wow haha, Violent spike in varsity, all the lights (outdoor lamps) flickered 3-5 times over 2< minutes. Must be some problems with a few substations.

Right after I posted I saw a broken powerline along stony trail. Looks like the bracket that normally holds it up had given way and was just hanging there. The poll was also on fire at the top.

On my way back home I saw 4-5 service vehicles out there.

Power is still off for now though.

^^ was it a steel tower or a wooden pole? How high? Etc.

FINALLY back on. That was a long one!

Thanks for the explaination about the pole - I was wondering what was going on there.

Figured maybe a construction worker took out an underground cable...

It was a wooden one. I drove past again on my way out to the theatre and it looks like it may have just been an indicator light and not a fire. Thankfully the power is back on now.

^^ ah it might have burnt too. The moisture can cause it to track from the insulator to the pole so you could have been right.

However a pole of that size couldnt take out that much load. There must have been another problem.

Yeah we've been in Kincora since Oct/Nov and there's been like 3 outages during our time here and a couple flickers. Last one was on Jan 1st.

It was only one part of Kincora. The house facing my backyard had lights on and everything :guns:

yeah but edgemont was out too so the pole underground saw could have caused kincora.

The chance edgemont was tied to that call is pretty small.

ZOMG, we'd better use tax payer money to put up some serious high power lines going to the border now! Otherwise brownouts could effect the whole city!!1!1!!1

Yup, about 3hrs no power tonight. Had to rig up a small light to a car battery. Weird thing is, a few houses down the street and throughout Kincora seem to have their power on.

A few months ago there was another 2 hr power outage. Oh well, better an outage than a spike.

Drove around kincora... it seems only a part of the neighborhood was out. Called into Enmax's outage reporting line - the recording said parts of hidden valley, hawkwood and citadel were out. Then I decided to go out for a drive with my family instead of sitting around in the dark.

After the power came back on, I finally decided to connect the UPS I have sitting in my basement to my server/cable modem/router

Seems to be quite a few beyonders in Kincora ...

Thank god i'm on a laptop and I put the UPS on the server, cable modem and router. :)

Edit: and a few minutes later, power is back!

Sherwood (by Kincora) was out last night also. Once around 8pm for an hour or so, and then again around 10pm. Frustrating.

It's the humidity right now guys. We've been having issues over a large portion of southern Alberta in general over the last two weeks or however long the fog has been around for.

Yeah, I am in the Cascades.

I guess it went out at least one more time after I left the house as all the clocks were blinking again.

Heavy wet snow/ice fog build up on the lines and mixed with wind can create line breaks, sleeves in the wire letting go ect. All underground power is fed from overhead lines, so if it is a break on a main circuit it can take a while to get back on if there is no other source to feed the affected areas. Can also lead to a main breaker in the sub tripping out.

Or an underground splice could have let go, transformer biting the dust. Many different things that could be causing this.
An OCR will trip 3 times almost instantly before it locks out. cutting off the power, could be smaller faults that aren't enough to trip OCR :)

2x in Aspen Hills. Last one was for 1/2 second or so at around 6:30pm. The one at 12:30am felt pretty long - seemed like 5 or 6 min.
