You ever get so bored, yet at the same time ask yourself wtf is there to do anyways? I was seeing a shrink for a while and 100$ an hour says I should be on some sort of anti-depressant, but I figured I don't do any illegal drugs so why should I do some that are legal? This is just going from bad to worse, and it seems if I'm not working I don't wanna do a f*** thing....

Anybody out there go thru anything similar and had positive results with meds? It's time for me to make some decisions...

Alot of the anti-depressants also help out apparently huge with anxiety...

I'm one of those people that get in the "bored" strikes, and even though there are things to do, I still classify them as something I can do later, or don't actually have to do...

Best thing you can do (as hard as this may be), is go out and meet some new people, find something interesting that helps you bring your spirit up...

I guess in short, find something, or discover something that gives you some ambition...

I've never been on meds, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I think if you can't kick it, and your in a rut, it might be something to look at...

Keep in mind that eventually even without the meds, you will kick out of this probably... (And if you don't kick out of it, the anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds might help you look at things in a different way which might help you get out of the rutt even after you stop taking them)

Right in the same boat you are OP. I'm not so sure it's anxiety as much as whatever else it is.

But if you do have a lot of anxiety, try taking Vitamin B Complex. Works great. I tried the meds thing and it sucked, but this feels far far better.

Like others said, I think you just need to find a good way to stay busy. From your other threads it just seems like you're used to working and now you're bored.

I'm a true workaholic in every sense of the word. I work 5 1/2 days a week and after work I goto the gym every day. I also attend a ton of charity functions as well as functions pertaining to my line of work.

When I am forced to take my vacations or a long weekend comes up and I'm down for 2 or 3 full days I start to get super anxious. I tried meds (paxil in low dose to combat anxiety) but it made me feel like a robot and numb.

I say pick up a hobby, goto lunch with old friends, start a side business, just stay busy.

The hardest part is seriously to find something you enjoy...

Once you get those happy thingies in your head going things will get better.

Just need to get your "better outlook" into whack!

Yeah I usually snowboard quite a bit and other outdoor stuff but I hurt my back in September so that's outta the question for this season, gonna start swimming an hour or so each night starting tomorrow, and I'm gonna try the B-complex for sure. heard that a few places now.

Right now I'd be happier than a pig in shit just to be able to stand for more than 15 minutes without excruciating back pain... Got an MRI and it's no good.... Getting a referral to see a specialist this week, prolly looking at surgery and I'm ok with that. I've always been kinda depressed even before my injury, but when it was so bad that I couldn't even stand for a minute a month ago, that really got me thinking about how lucky I am now, and once I get this all sorted out I just hope that the "not taking it for granted" factor kicks in even more so I can overcome all this mental bullshit too...

To the OP -- why not try another counsellor or therapist first -- and then make a decision about the psychotropic meds?

Will give you one warning, the meds can be hard to get off of once you start taking them. Even after you are better and no longer need them to go about your daily life, when you miss one you experience certain withdrawal effects, sometimes the withdrawal effects can be distracting/shitty enough that it is easier to keep taking the pills...

It sounds like you are experiencing some depression due to your lifestyle change from your injury, but I agree in finding some courses that you can do that maybe do not require standing for long periods of time etc... or a new hobby etc... BEFORE resorting to a prescription (which doctors are all too happy to hand out btw.)

There are enough things for one to do in a day, I can't see how anyone that has their own place (rented or not) could possibly have the time to be bored, unless they are unemployed.

Clean your place, organize your junk, repaint/update your dwelling, clean your car, go for a walk, ride a bike, read a book... etc...

These days, there really is no excuse for one to ever be bored... especially so bored that it causes anxiety to a level where one needs medication for it.

You'd be surprised how often this happens to people. Alot of people don't even really talk about it openly...

I'm one of the busiest people I know, and I've had a few issues in the past where I loose interest, and the EXACT same thing as the OP is reporting was happening to me...

One of the things that spurred my anxiety back a long time ago was surgery. After that I was in a pretty bad spell once I recovered... Took a bunch of shit to get out of it!

have you looked into yoga/meditation at all?

i dunno exactly whats wrong with your back so it might be something you cant do until after surgery.. but yoga is pretty amazing for strengthing and improving your back health.. (and the rest of you too for that matter)

and it can be hard at first to alter your perception of the world enough to really keep an open mind about it and get into meditation.. but its pretty powerful stuff, its truely amazing what you can do for your physical and mental health just by sitting and breathing for 20-30 minutes a day.

Theres a book I just finished reading.. "the complete idiots guide to meditation".. if your willing to keep an open mind and interested in trying something other then meds.. id suggest giving it a read. I think you'll find that meditation isnt really what you thought it was, and you might just find a style of meditation that really works for you.

Personally I used to think it was all abunch of hippy garbage.. but now, after getting into this stuff, I really cant say enough about how big a difference it can make to how healthy and happy you are day to day.

Its not about not having things to do. Its about having anxiety where you dont feel like doing anything. You feel bored but dont feel like acting on your boredom and doing something about it.
