Ok it's after midnight and I'm trying to remove the front end of a civic. There's a crap load of welds and my flathead screwdriver and swing press technique is going to end up taking an eye out.

How do you break welds easily? Obviously I need to buy some other tool. But don't say a sawsall because I need to put this all back together with new parts :p

Help!!

lol

Thanks guys!

Idk, at this time im pretty sure most places that carry tools are closed.

When i was fixing my buddies car, i drilled out most of the spot welds, and used a flat head and a hammer to break the welds that didnt want to come out. Pretty much used the flat head as a chisel.

Spot weld cutter and a small chisel. Easiest and quickest with least amount of damage.

I've heard great things about a special bit that is designed to drill out spot welds:

If you don't want to damage the parent material, then a spot weld drill bit will allow you to remove the top layer of material to separate it without putting a hole in the parent material.

Other than that, a pin punch and a drill always works. Chisel always seems to warp/deform the metal too much around the spot weld you're trying to break. If you have lots of room to work with, grinder to the spot weld also works.

Way after the fact but I would first use a sawz-all or a skill saw with a blade for metal.
Don't have it? Then use a drill and drill it out.

Then use an angle grider to clean up the welded area.
