looking to order up a new GTI here soon, and i can not decide which way this car looks better, im usually not a fan of any 5 door hatch but this one has me torn, im talking looks only not ease of access or use. Usually 3 doors have the more sporty look, but the 5 door makes it look less like a little go cart beetle.

I like 'em both, but I see what you mean. I think the five door looks more 'substantial' :dunno:

Don't let the photography fool you... In my opinion the 5 door looks long and like a mini - mini van.

3 door, looks best .

I'll post some pics when i get home, but i like the quarterwindow a lot better on the 3 vs 5.

I would say look at the dealership and see what looks better in person... pictures are hard to gauge at times.

I have seldom (if ever) found a sedan version that I prefer over the coupe version.

With that said, I think it looks hot either way.

yeah they only had the four door at the dealership, took it for a rip and love it compared to my civic si. WRX was close but i like the fact that the GTI has that high end feel, almost like an Audi.

I agree - I love the GTI, test drove one last summer, loved it. Very very good deal for the price and it just oozes quality build.

It is all preference, I like the look of the 3 door much more. But I would buy a 5 door so I don't have to fight with putting things in the back.

yeah and I'm asking only looks, not usability, that is not an issue for me, i never use my back seat.

I'm going for 3 door because it's solely based on looks.

Functionality-wise, 5 door is the bomb.

:poosie:

I prefer the 5 door GTI's.
Flashy rims like those make the car look too small 3 door.

Look at the windows on the 3 vs 5. The 3 door window line is so much more sporty and less boxy. It was like they designed it to be a 3 door, but they made a 5 door and had to make it functional > form.

4 door looks huge because of the extra door.

IMO 2 door looks way better on this car.

Put 4 doors on a beetle, see how that would look.

3 door, but if you at all think you need the 5 then go for it. The 5 doesn't look bad, just the 3 is better IMO.

Exactly and in the end, function mattered to me!

Damn it I should have went with white instead of grey. White looks so nice on these cars but grey does hide the dirt pretty good lol

Such a tough call for me. While both great looking, I'd choose the 5 door. I think the big chunk of body panel on the 3 door is why. But you csn't go wrong with either of them.

that's my next problem, the color. I think i am either going black or white, i didn't want white because my current car is white, but it does look really good in white.

Imo the color combination's can also influence the look. Like personally Id get a 5 door in red, but a 3 door in white. Seeing them in person will make it all click, pics dont do justice. The GTI is MENT for 3 doors, but there is that option for people that want the convenience. Its really up to you, will you be doing any mods like coilovers, etc etc ?

White is the "in" colour right now, the new black they say. I still go for black.

I forced myself to get grey because my other two cars are also white. haha

Are you getting leather? I went with the leather/sunroof package but when I think about it, I kind of wish I went with the cloth seats. The traditional VW plaid design is so pimp.

im going leather i have cloth seats now and i miss having leather, and I want the power sunroof. I will probably go black because its available with everything i want.

First attractive 5 door car I've ever seen, big props to VW for that.

I'd go with a 5 door for the practicality & parking benefits its offers. :dunno: When you're driving around friends & family quite often, nothing is more frustrating then trying to do so with a 2 door car. :nut:

Hard choice, both look really good. I guess you can't go wrong with either. But if you don't care about practicality and having back doors I would say go with the three doors. I like it just a little more. But hard to say because I don't ever remember seeing a three door in person before.

Man that new GTI makes me want to trade in my Cooper S for one! I would personally go for the five door model but the two door does look really good.

my pic is a white 5 door but I want the back seat for friends, stuff, dogs, etc.

4 door and hatch, I refuse to sit in the back of any car and not have my own door and window to buzz down. Also order it with the rear airbags, unless you wish to feel the karma of going cheap and having a friend messed up so you could save beer money for a few months.

Looks will fade, function is timeless.

wow there are not a lot of GTI's available in Canada right now, I ordered one today and its coming from Halifax, its a 2 door black with the luxury package!
