I'd take one over an M3!

Look closely and you'll be able to spot the slightly blistered wheel arches that hark back to the original Quattro coupe, the new front bumper with larger air vents at each corner, the honeycomb grille without the horizontal bar, the redesigned rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and the two large oval tail pipes.

The revised LED tail lamps, the specific alloy wheels and what looks like a retractable boot lid spoiler round off the exterior styling tweaks.

The interior shots suggest that there won't be any cosmetic upgrades over the S5 Coupe.

We're still in the dark about what's lurking under the hood, but it is believed that Audi's BMW M3 rival will most likely be powered by a V8 engine, quite possibly, turbocharged.

OMG - me wants! Still not 100% on the coupe design of this, though - something just looks "not quite right" about it, the Sedan body just looks better I think - but the RS may not come in a sedan).

The unanswered question though; is will it be coming to North America? In the dealer the other day and when I asked, they said they don't know... :dunno:

There is a two tone (red/black) interior S4 at Royal Oak Audi right now - the fit and finish is superb!

They never released RS6 or TT-RS to North America. (Well, actually it's because Audi of America and Audi Canada won't carry them)

When it comes to RS line of vehicle, don't hold your breath if you are not in Europe.

That said, rumor is that RS4 will probably never come back, so that chance of we getting RS5 is pretty good.

Oh, there are a number of audis being federalized now by an mtm distributor including the RS6 and TT-RS, so hopefully we start seeing a few of those here if it is completely true as the story has been posted in numerous places.

I think it looks like an awesome car though, and the extra bump in power from that engine is nice. Hopefully we see an RS4 here but iirc we are only supposed to get the RS5 in NA. Hopefully we see the pricing more inline with the M3/C63 as we already saw the drop in the S4 pricing to make room for a drop on the RS.

Totally disappointed with the output.

It may have more HP and nice exhaust note, it's a bit weak on the torque and nowhere near the maximum spec of the S-Tronic transmission. And only 1/2s faster on 0-60 official spec compared to the S4.

Looks nice, too bad about no manual.

Weird about not having fogs. I saw a new M3 and noticed they didn't have fogs either. On my X5 M there aren't any fogs either hmm...

Can someone explain the Canadian pricing of the old B7 RS4?

In the US the base price was $66k US which was similar to the M3. It was supposed to be a M3 competitor so it was priced the same as the M3.

But in Canada it starts at $95k? Why does it cost the same as a M5 in Canada? Audi thinks Canadians will pay $30k more for a slower car just to have AWD?

Xtrema
02-22-2010, 07:10 PM
RS4's price was set before the raise of the loonie. And M3 drop their price a bit since then. Audi has always price their product a bit more than equivalent BMW/Merc products.

If it makes you feel any better, S4 prices almost the same as 335xi.

Audi has really tended to move away from the V8 lately. I heard the 2011 RS4 is moving to a supercharged 6 to reduce fuel and emissions; I would be somewhat surprised if they didn't do the same with this.

...which then begs the question: How much power CAN one get out of a 6?

What a wicked looking car though.

Top gear on it:

http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/audi-rs5-2010-02-22

Kloubek, it's the S4 that's gone V6, supercharged. The RS5 is the same V8 and remains naturally aspirated, and NO manual gear box!! :(

Not sure there's even going to be another RS4 yet, or if either are coming to NA

I thought they would have gone with the same SC motor as the S5 and tweaked it for more power. With that said I am not sad to see the 8.

The performance numbers make sense to me in the scheme of things with the S5 and against the 335/m3.

If what some of the other posters said is true and there are no plans of another RS4 to NA I am disappointed to hear that. Although I do like the look of this coupe I think I am more inclined to the looks of the 4 door m3. I will be eagerly waiting for pricing/option packages to be released for NA.

The 2008 S4 had the 4.2 Liter V8

The new S4 (2009 on) has the 3.0 liter Supercharged V6.

The S5 has the 4.2L V8

The 2011 RS5 has the 4.2 liter V8

Here's the graph comparing stock 2010 S4 and 2007 RS4.
http://www.goapr.com/includes/img/products/dyno/42l_fsi_v8_rs4_vs_30tfsi_b8s4.gif

Just remember, 2007 RS4 was rated 420HP and 317lb/ft. RS5 is using the same engine but tuned for another 30HP.

If you notice the drop off from peak @ ~ 5000 rpm on the stock S4, it's cause by reduction of pressure from the stock programming. APR already said that if pressure is maintained, there is no reason for it not out performing the 4.2L V8.

That's why I'm surprised RS line won't get a supercharged V8. Especially S5 cabriolet already got the same supercharged V6 as S4.

Shoot, thanks Wrinkly. I meant S4 in my previous post and managed to totally forget that the current S5 has the V8 already.

Yea, coming from a company that sells a chip for the S4, its pretty obvious what engine they would be partial to.

"If pressure is maintained" the "warranty will not be maintained" is what I'm getting out of this.

But in any case, I agree that the 8300 revving 4.2 V8 was not the best choice for this car. By the time this makes its way to N/A an updated M3 will most probably be out.

I think that's obvious on any chip/ecu tunes other than from STaSIS which will cover factory warranty (but you pay for it tho).

http://www.stasisengineering.com/STaSISS4.html

The blower can provide up to 24psi of boost. Stock S4 is applying anywhere from 10-14psi. There is room for more, even if you include limitation of DSG transmission.

The price for the RS5 starts at 77000 euros which is ridiculously expensive. Comes to $107000CAD. And knowing Canada, it will be higher than that... for that price, I would get a Maserati Granturismo or pay a bit more and get a V8 Vantage.

^ Consider M3 starts @ $68K euro, it's the typical Audi premium.

Damn what a great looking car. It is unfortunate that Audi is becoming the new douchebag car though, they really are making a great looking vehicle. Wonder what will be powering it.
