Speaking of the right kind of music, your avatar is awesome, redlyne. I'm a huge Maiden fan, in fact, about one third of my 300 CD collection consist of Iron Maiden/Bruce Dickinson stuff (got pretty much all the albums and all the cd singles). Took me a couple of years to get all the stuff and it's a pretty nice collection.

Oh yeah, to stay on topic, as for punk, nothing beats Dead Kennedy's, especially Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables.

i like emo all the way to the metally sounding punk stuff, insightful or poetic lyrics really do it for me:
-strung out (just awesome - twisted by design is a wicked album),
-rise against (great lyrics, first cd is way better),
-no use (happy punk but not in a gay way),
-thrice (good guitarist, great vocals),
-the lawrence arms (d/l brickwall views!)
-used to listen to NFG and good charlotte (this is that gay way i was talking about),
-blink sucks now,
-fenix tx, goldfinger is (good filler punk),
-simple plan and not by choice might as well be the same band (and if you combined the talent from both bands would still suck)
-guttermouth is always fun
-does anyone else think AFI is getting more and more weak?
-the used sound like good charlotte
-i've listened to some motion city soundtrack, kinda like them

most of my favourites are from fat wreck, which is why i was asking, i felt like some kind of slave to the label and figured theres more out there, but after listening to punk-o-rama 8, im convinced epitaph does not have that many great acts on it anymore, other than bad religion (i think are overated), NOFX, Rancid etc

so if you got bands with mind blowing lyrics, and a really dynamic sound, lay it on me, songs to d/l too!

I hate to admit this, but I used to like Good Charlotte too before this new album came out and they decided to turn into gothic freaks.:thumbsdow

Nah its the same singer, they have broken up and gotten back together a few times already ...

just a question though.... how can you think Bad Religion is "Overrated"? go buy "Bad Religion 80-85" they set the scene for most of the bands you like now before you were even born.

Yeah Operation Ivy is fucking sweet. Rancid is made up of a couple a couple old op ivy guys i.e Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman.. make sure you buy "Unity" it has all their songs on it but the other releases have like 8 or 9 each and Unity has like 26 or something.

Metally Poetic Lyrics .... the music u called "Bitch-Punk" ....you should really consider listening to it... Lyrically these bands are awsome - check out my hardcore/emocore thread....

i think HOPESFALL has some really good lyrics, ill give you an example...

Broken heart of a Traitor -

will the waves of time wash away the pain in my heart? can i bury the knife that has pierced my soul or will i continue to turn it to remind me of my own blindness? because i find no touch of grace to surprise my eyes, or rest my spirit and i have come to realize my good moments were forged in self deception... and the question that plagues my mind... is grace enough? to build a bridge once burned, to fill what is hollow with the substance of virtue though the wings of a dove have wiped the tears from my eyes this tounge has fanned the flames of unforgiveness but love suffers long and rejoices in truth... and this imperfect creation is shortcoming but striving none the less for that which is eternal

Decoys Like Curves (got ina car accident listening to this song)

we drove these streets heads to shoulders
existing to tell the tales of letting go
and now we're strangled to tears on the fallback farewell
its all in our heads
the faint whispers
i tried to tell myself when its already over
that the reasons found decoys
and this is holding me back
as if to say what you thought you heard
i wish i did
i don't want to feel this pull as this city becomes home without you

that was what i was getting at, i don't like music devoted to the ubiquitous significant other, there are ways of venting anguish and pain that don't necessarily come with lost love etc

but if you wanna get mushy:

Lawrence Arms - 100 Resolutions

I wonder where you'll be bringing in the new year.
As midnight clocks are singing,
good chance I'll be slobbering somewhere.
Probably pass out, wasted, and sleeping until the smoke clears.
Vague memories of midnight flash in tune to morning sunlight.
Wake up knowing you'll never be there.
I've got 100 resolutions, but I've got no solutions.
I've got one song I write 100 times.
And only a dozen or so rhymes.
