View Full Version : Race City Question! *Battery Switch*

I have to relocate my battery to my hatch of my car, I got a Taylor battery box and an external switch and I was about to start wiring it up when I read that the NHRA says you have to have the switch on the positive side of the circuit and not the negative.

Does race city care on what side you put the external switch? I wanted to put it on the ground side to make things WAY easier for wiring. Do they even check to see which side I did put the switch on?

This of course could all mean nothing if race city is closed this summer.

Dont mean to highjack the thread but to add on that..

How rigurous are the checks at race city before racing?

I would think that it should be on the positive side but I can't say for sure.

positive is what you will need to do for every series so might as well do it right the first time, its damn easy, just need to tap into the main lead and the one for the alternator

and race city is more rigorous then most insurance safety inspections i have got

Basically, they wanna hit that switch and have the car go dead RIGHT away, thats all they check for, unless you are going faster than 10.99 i think, then you need cages, etc.

they are looking for decent tires, all lugnuts in place, driver has a SNELL helmet for 13.99 passes or less, bettery tie downs, no loose subs bouncing around the trunk, amps, etc...
no wires that go nowhere, that are powered anyways.basically, nothing unsafe.

lol eric, your insurance inspections must not be very rigorous, because what i listed there is pretty much what they look for.

Silly question (since I've never been to the track) - let's say they require a (insert whatever here) if you run less than 12s (or 11s, or 10s, or whatever)

So what happens if you run a 17@170mph? 17s are a far far far cry from 10s, heh

Nothing happens. You run slow. Like a stock civic dx ;). You still need to be checked. At that speed you don't need a helmet. :)

Edit: reading>me. Is that even possible to run 17@170mph?

When my old DSM ran a 18.6 at 106mph they got mad at me for no helmet.... Don`t ask..

either/or

Will they kick out off after that run if you don't have a safety cage and whatever else they require?

General regs (page 119) No wet cell batteries are allowed in the driver or passenger compartments. batteries relocated to the trunk or rear of the car must have a "fire wall" or battery box consisting of 1/32 thick steel or aluminum with a master cut off switch on the POSITIVE side the shuts down ALL electrical systems.
Now i have an optima red top battery relocated to right behind me passenger seat inside a plastic box. they rarely check inside the box. but they always test the cut off swtich

General Regs (page 127)the battery cut off MUST be on the back of your car and interrupts the positive electrical current. The switch must me clearly identifiable and marked for function (turn, pull or push). they made me move mine it was on the B-pillar which is right above the rear tire. my cut off switch doesn't kill all the electrical just the battery and the ECU. motor doesn't turn without the ECU so i don't have to worry about the current from the alt. to test it they'll ask you to hold roughly 2000rpm and they flick the switch, the car must stall within 2 second.

If you plan on doing much racing at race city i'd recommend you buy the IHRA rule box from the office at near the gate, it's only 10$
