those mounts suck so much ass. I want a single big one with a throw leaver that can hold like 10lbs of weight so the thing doesn't fly off all the time.

NM just check out their website and they have those... sweet

I stuck mine on like 3 months ago when I got a detector and it hasn't come off since. :dunno:

My mount is ~3years old and goes between 2 cars quite frequently. The suction cups barely suck anymore. Want one with a lever.

A little off topic, but any thoughts on the 8500 X50 vs Solo S2?

If you're looking for the perfect Escort/Valentine mount, these things are the shit if they fit your car:

Cordless is a waste of time IMO - you have a 12v connection in your car, might as well use it and forget about replacing batteries. You can even hardwire in the x50 powersupply so that it doesn't use up your 12v space.

In terms of functionality, I've been using the x50 for 4 years now and have found:

1. LOTS of false alarms. Laser will go off randomly if I honk my horn, and I know of specific spots going up 16th Ave that ALWAYS sets off KA with no cops to be seen.

2. It is very ineffective in the city

3. If the RCMP leave their detectors on (they usually do), I can pick up a cruiser car 3km - 4km before I actually see it... lots of time to slow down, and it has saved me ass at high speeds a few times.

4. It has caused me to slam on my brakes even when i'm doing the speed limit - I don't know, it's just the sound it makes when KA or Laser is detected scares the shit out of me every time.

Those are far from perfect. You are going to have a hard time picking up laser with your detector by your mirror

I laugh when i see people with them mounted that high, cops aim lower than that my friend, and laser is the one you should be most worried about.

As zip stated, you can pickup Ka from crazy far, but laser is usually pointed right at you when it goes off.. I would rather have a better chance of picking up laser that Ka.

EDIT: I use the 9500i personally if anyone cares. (great for marking annoying X band and K band false alarms)

I called the number on the website and they were okay placing the order over the phone to Canada.

It would just be used for one road trip. I just hate having wires, and I need the 12V to plug in other stuff. Thanks for the input.

I'm sure we could go on and on about this (as I'm sure it has been before), but I personally prefer a high mounting position as per the V1 instruction manual:

Detector performance is enhanced by a high mounting
position. Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to
the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from
the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot.

Never had a problem picking up laser.

I laugh when i see people that buy radar detectors thinking they are protecting themselves from LIDAR. Does that make either of us wrong?

I built a mirror mount similar to the one above but i made it out of billet alumminum. I opted to make one myself because the VW mirror mount is not round but an odd oval shape thinger. Ill take pictures later.

Exactly. Without a Blinder or similar unit, once that laser hits you your buggered. What you're hoping for is that one slim chance that you get a bit of spray when the car in front gets tagged, and it picks it up.

Which I have on more than one occasion, but im not going to say it was because I have mine mounted lower for a higher chance of picking it up..
