Does anyone have any links or ideas to help coach a Grade 8 badminton team? I'm looking at things to do during practises such as drills, routines, moves etc. that will help them develop their skills.

I was on the team in junior high but can't remember fuck all with regards to what we did. As far as I know we just played without any real instruction!!:banghead:

I dont think there is any coaching to do in badminton.

Its pretty much hand-eye coordination and practice.

You're making badminton seem like its fucking basketball.

Grab the racket. grab the birdie and smash. It aint that complicated.

Basketball is probably the worst comparison you could have made.
While i see where you're coming from, your also pretty ignorant to look at it like this.

Hell man, even 'skeleton' has coaches... What do you do there?
Run... Jump on sled..Stay aero through ride.

I race bikes, and i can guarantee you, my coaching is par, if not at a higher degree than basketball coaching... Along with any other sport.... INCLUDING badminton.

Motivation is the all the training they need.

If they win, they don't get touched by the creepy Asian teacher.

I would personally start with proper grip...no pancakes!

Second I would work on footwork....running 4 corners (a big X on the court - Front right, Back Left, Center, Back right, Front Left

A good serve goes a long way in beginner badminton, singles, get them to work on a deep high serve that forces the opponent to play defence.

Depending on skill level try to do a drives drill. Flat shots standing mid to front court as fast as they can - super good for eye-to-raquet coordination.

For doubles, proper doubles strategy goes a long way - defence play side-to-side, as soon as you see a weakness or hit a smash one girl runs to the net, the other moves to the back etc etc.

So...technique, footwork, strength and strategy!

Form, too! I didn't learn proper form in school and now I'm stuck in a bad habit where the power is coming from my arm and not using the wrist.

Such a pain in the ass trying to overcome bad habits. :banghead:
