So I just put a deposit on an 02' M3 SMG with a June 02' build date with 76,000km at Brian Jessel BMW in Vancouver. I have the sales man sending me the paperwork for all the service history of the car in the dealer network. It has had all the S54 service action work done on it. I am waiting for the documents to show up. They have done a 50 point used vehicle inspection and did a few repairs (LFCA + LFCAB, PS hose, oil pan gastket and a brake fluid flush). The sales man told me that it needs a service II, new 19" tires (20% left), a fender liner and a power mirror switch to bring it up to perfect. What are some of the other things I should be looking for on this car when I go down to Van to check it out physically?

Window regulators. rear subframe. RTAs

Ask if the Vanos has been serviced

Personally, I would look for a 2003.5

Push on the door lock / hazard switches really hard. Make sure it doesn't break.

Check E46fanatics for more issues.

why not just buy locally? Less of a hassle and you wont have to do an OPP inspection on it.

The reason I was loking to buy this car in BC was it was Pheonix Yellow on Kiwi leather which is a rare combo.

Either way, I called the salesman and offered to buy the car at full price on the basis that it had an Inspection II performed on it and to have a new set of tires put on it. Or discount the car for the equivalent value. This work was to be done after I would fly out to inspect the car to my satisfaction in case I didn't buy it. I wanted it in writting, I was not just going to fly out and have no negotiating leverage once I got there as they knew I was flying in.

Having said all of that, they flatly rejected my offers stating that Brian Jessel BMW does not negotiate on their prices and the vehicle was priced fairly taking all this work needed into account. Would have been nice to know this from the get go as we pissed around back and fourth for a week!?

Can't help you out much regarding e46's but buying from vancouver was definitely an excellent decision.
Cars from B.C are in immaculate condition (hardly any snow, no gravel, salt, misc weather elements).. Just alot of rain

My e36 came from b.c last year with 83,000 kms and to my surprise the bottom was black as stock and there was not a rock chip to be found.. wish I could stil say the same, but yeah very happy about buying from Vancouver.
