If you are in the market for a 740i, this is the one to get. The vehicle is as close to new as you will ever find a E38 7-Series which has left Dingolfing, Germany. This was the last year (and most desirable) for this generation 7-Series.
The car was purchased in 2003 at BMW Calgary with 65k km for $50,000, and currently stands at around 99k. I am the second owner. The car was used strictly as a summer vehicle and therefore has no chips or body imperfections attributed to driving on Calgary’s abusive winter roads. It was only taken out at the point in which the roads had been cleared to prevent any sort of rock chips (it is however protected with a 3M Clear Bra in the front). The windshield is also as new, and original. This car can easily be driven in the winter with the appropriate tires, but I always had a Honda Pilot for the winter time, so it was a nonissue for me.
The car drives beautifully, smooth and stable. Incredible amounts of power in this vehicle supplied by the 4.4L DOC 32 Valve V8 M62 Motor providing 282hp and 325lb tq. This motor has the VANOS system and an electronically actuated throttle. The engine design also included slightly larger mass-airflow sensor and lower flow intake plenum runners which improved lower RPM torque characteristics. The M62 is mated to an automatic transmission featuring Steptronic (which allows one to manually select gears if so inclined). Simply stated, it moves brilliantly. The car is also equipped with Cruise control. The car presents no hesitation in acceleration, and is very quiet on idle.
The car is colored in a stunning 339 Aspensilbe Aspen Silver Metallic, it is a really multidimensional color which has brought many complements. It is perfectly matched with the Gray w/ lavender undertone Montana Leather upholstery. Front and Rear(!) Heated leather is beautifully complimented by the Vavona redwood Trim. The leather is in great condition, and with minimal wear, which is a great characteristic of Montana Leather used in this 7.
The interior can be best described as a sanctuary. Extremely quiet and full of every comfort feature you could imagine. All doors and storage compartments are "soft touch". All seats are a great place to be, the fronts especially so with the 16 Way Power Articulated Front Seats "Comfort Seats" with articulated backrests lumbar support and 3 memory positions. Adjustable headrests and armrests allow you to achieve that "perfect" driving position. The car also features one touch electric glass moonroof/sunroof, Adjustable Safety Belt Height and adjustable Electric Tilt/Telescopic steering. Many of the features can be controlled by the leather wrapped steering wheel. It would be impossible not to find that perfect driving position in this car.
The dual zone automatic climate control always keeps you and your passengers at the perfect temperature. It also features a "REST" feature to circulate warm air with the engine off. This car also features automatic dimming mirrors for pesky drivers with high aimed headlights or aftermarket xenons.
No driving experience is complete without music, and the BMW delivers with the premium audiophile DSP 10 Speaker system (perfectly balanced with tweeters for full dynamic range) all connected to the trunk mounted 6 Disk CD Changer. It is all perfectly integrated with the Voice Guided Navigation System (original CD's are provided). The Navigation works quite well in Calgary, and really takes the stress away of trying to remember directions etc.
The suspension has Double Pivot McPherson struts in the Front and 4 Link Integral systems in the rear. Anti-roll bars keep the car stable and tight when cornering. This 7 also comes with the optional EDC Electronic Damper Control which is a processor-controlled wheel suspension system that adjusts the shock absorbers to changing road or driving conditions. EDC regulates damper forces electronically, adapting to road, load and driving conditions. EDC allows you to choose between a comfortable ride or sporty handling. You can also select Sport Mode manually by a switch. The Sport Mode is a firm, sports-style damper setting, with the benefits of maximum comfort and excellent road safety, individualized choice of program between comfort and sport (two suspension settings in one) and consistently good vibration control and suspension, regardless of vehicle load. The button LED lights up on the 7 Series when Sport mode is selected. With all this being said, I didn't realize that the car had this feature until I pulled out the manuals this week!
When I was shopping for a vehicle the safety features were paramount for travelling with my family. This car was built with that in mind. It has numerous preventative measures in place. First off, it features a sophisticated self check feature which makes sure all of the cars systems are running as they should. The Dynamic stability control (traction control) constantly compares vehicle speed, wheel speed, steering angle, and yaw rate with a benchmark of plausible and optimum driving conditions' data. In a fraction of a second, DSC recognizes a threatening instability and a danger of skidding. The DSC system can correct an unstable driving condition by applying precise braking action to the individual wheels. DSC will if necessary also cut back the engine speed to automatically stabilize the vehicle. It also features DBC (Dynamic Braking Control) for when you need to stop in an emergency; the system reinforces your applying the brakes to provide maximum braking in the shortest distance. The criteria for full brake application are the speed with which you apply the brakes and the amount of brake pressure you exert.
Should the car be in a collision, you are well protected in the rigid passenger safety cell with diagonal door reinforcements with safety anchors and head protection system.. The car is equipped with Dual Airbag SRS systems with selective deployment and a passenger occupancy recognition function in the Front, and side airbags in the front.
This car also has many theft prevention features such The antitheft alarm system (DWA) which monitors the doors and lids as well as the ignition lock, the vehicle tilt and the vehicle interior (motion sensors). In addition it has a double locking feature, Ignition disable, Electronic "intelligent" Immobilizer and a chipped laser cut key. I am not to sure how all the anti-theft features work, but they are there!
For optimal visibility in all conditions the car has Auto leveling Xenon lights, automatic rain sensing wipers, and headlight washer nozzles. The car also has a ski pass through with bag, perfect for a weekend ski/snowboard trip.
The car was purchased from BMW Calgary in South, but as I live in the North it has been serviced at BMW Gallery in Crowfoot. The car has always been dealer serviced from day one, per whatever the dealer suggested I do to do the car. I have most records from the past 3 years, but full service and records are available at the dealership. Just recently in August the Brake Pads, Rotors, Sensors were all replaced, including lubrication of the sliders. The Hydraulics was inspected, and the fluid was flushed. In addition, the Power Steering Fluid was flushed. The battery in the car is One year old and is an OEM Exide 110AH battery.
I have never had a single repair on the car in my ownership; it has been the symbol of reliability.
The reason for selling this vehicle is due to the need for a true all weather luxury car, and has been replaced with a Mercedes SUV. When compared to other cars, you can really feel the difference in the way this E38 7-Series is made. Everything feels solid, built to last as it has been all over engineered. Built more to a spec, than to a price. For this model year, they added body colored side skirts, and front and rear air dams (all were black until 2001) and crystal clear rear and side turn signals which really add to the look of the car.
Notably this is last year before the 7-series got "bengaled", and paired with the poorly designed and unreliable I-Drive system. This shape of this 7-Series has aged beautifully and really has a look which combines the look of power and strength with sophistication and elegance (Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Hugo Boss Suit perhaps?). One of the best looking BMW’s ever produced without doubt. It has been forever immortalized as a James Bond car in Tomorrow Never Dies, Enemy of the State, and the Transporter. BMW Films also featured a very similar car to mine in their short film, Ambush, featuring Clive Owen - a must check out!

The car has never been smoked in, No accidents and mature adult owned. It includes all manuals, and the keys that were provided at purchase. Premium fuel has always been used in this vehicle. It has the original tool box and full sized spare (both never used). Photos really do not do justice to this beautiful car.
I am asking for $15,750 for my 7-Series and fairly firm on the price considering the price of other 7’s for sale, and the condition/mileage of this one.
